I bought a NOS vintage Isky cam recently and it is a "hardface overlay" cam that requires chilled iron lifters. This is for a Studebaker V-8 and virgin cams went extinct about 35 years ago, unfortunately it seems chilled iron lifters did as well. I probably won't be able to find lifters although Mopar and AMC lifters will work. I have been told even though this is a mild cam and I wouldn't need high spring pressures it shouldn't be run on the street as it will wear too quickly. Anybody here ever have any experience with these? Do they really wear that fast? I do plan to rack up some miles on it and I have a decent regrind but this cam was pefect for my app. You can still get cams but they are all regrinds which limits the selection. If raw cores were available I'd have it copied BUT no such critter is known to exist. TIA.

Doesn't Isky still source chilled-iron lifters?
I'd get on a Stude Board and buy a good core off onna those guys and have Delta or whoever regrind one. Try the guys up in Southbend, IN b/c that's the home of Stude!
Heck, spend some phone minutes and call here. Maybe they can help??

Been on the Stude boards, that's where I found the Isky cam and my regrind. There are NO raw Stude cores that anyone knows of and no chilled iron lifters so it may not make any difference on whether the cam is actually a strip only piece or not. Not much good without lifters. In fact there are virtually no NEW Stude stock lifters either, I'll have to have mine refaced.
Bought a '55 Commander Coupe with what was supposed to be a stock 224 V-8 with the intent of swapping in a Vortec head roller cam SBC but then found out it had a 289 out of '56 Sky Hawk and it is so darn cool looking and runs so good I can't bring myself to ditch it.
