I just wanted to say hello. I am new to this forum and looking for info to help with the engine rebuild on my wifes 71 Chevelle 454. I have already installed a Tremec 5 speed overdrive and done a lot of cosmetic work. The engine is well built but tired and I want to build it right the first time so I am trying to gather as much info as possible on the best way to go about the engine work. I am not a stranger to cars but I have focused my efforts the last few years on my drag diesel truck (a 10 second Dodge ram 2wd :D) I want the car to be a dependable driver for my wife to play in.

Check out my home page and you will see what Red Rocket Racing is like  A twin turboed 900hp 5400lb 5.9 Cummins powered truck that runs 10's on fuel only  I know it is not your cup of tea but I love it!!!! I am also very much into old muscle. I have owned a bunch of GTO's and a 70 Challenger R/T and now I am working on our 71 big block Chevelle :hurray:

Welcome to the forum.By the sound of things you don't seem so "new" to me :)

One thing you should do is take tons of pictures throughout the process to have a nice picture book later.

Thanks for all the replies :hurray:

I have a ton pictures of the progress so far. I will post some soon. I bought the car out of Ohio as a not numbers matching survivor. It had a 15 year old paint job and was a rust free car. The car was an original small block auto car that had a big block 4 speed transplant done 20 years ago. The car was a summer driver and race car for years and spent its winters in a garage. I had the car shipped to Washington and it showed up with a destroyed drivers side read quarter panel  the shipping company paid for a new quarter panel and a complete paint job :hurray: I then replaced the
M-21 with a tremec 5 speed and a Lakewood scatter shield and Centerforce II clutch. It had 4:10 gears and with the 082 overdriven 5th gear cruises on freeway very nicely  The engine is well built but tired and I am going to go thru it this winter. It looks like there is a lot of guys in my area on this forum who I hope to get to know and learn from. I like to do things right the first time.
I also just purchased a power front disc brake setup for the car (from the spindles out and all new lines front to rear) I will install this while the engine out for rebuild
