: Help with fuel delivery
onebadd66 Mar 3rd, 04, 9:35 AM I'm under the impression that my car is starving for fuel at the end of a run.I have a stock line from the tank going to a Holly 6 1/2 to 8 psi. pump then to -6 line to the carb.Would adapting a -8 line from the tank on up do the job,or should I go with an electric pump w/ reg,or just a reg? Any help would be great.....
Again ,thanx in advance

19Nova72 Mar 3rd, 04, 12:47 PM So is it stock 5/16" or 3/8" line? What makes you think its starving? The electric pump will give you a few HP, but will cost more.
onebadd66 Mar 3rd, 04, 12:56 PM The line is stock,5/16 line.As far as thinking that it's starving,I'm just going by from what I've heard so far from others,RE: my time, and et.Some seem to think that the car was noseing over. However ,it didn't feel that way.Just a thought.
Scott_68_SS Mar 3rd, 04, 1:02 PM Bite the bullet. Once it's done, it will no longer be an issue. Put 1/2 hard line from tank all the way up. You can drill out the old line and solder in the bigger line. Or, I haven't verified this yet, but some of the BBC trucks came with 1/2 line stock. My 78 did at least. Might check a sending unit and see if it came w\ 1/2 line and will fit.
I just soldered mine in since the stock p/u tube had a kink in it out of the box.
A 14 psi E pump will probably work with stock 5/16 line though. IF you have 3/8 line now, look for other problems first.
onebadd66 Mar 3rd, 04, 1:37 PM Thanx Scott.I was hopeing to get away from having to go the gas tank route,or just put in a fuel cell. :D
If in fact what you saying is that if it is starving for fuel, thinking I could get away with plumbing the stock 5/16 from the tank, to the pump, and maybe 1/2" from the pump to a reg, then to the carb?Putting in a fuel gauge outside the car would,nt hurt I guess either.......
Silver69Camaro Mar 3rd, 04, 1:46 PM Putting a 1/2" line after the pump with a 5/16" inlet is like putting 2" tailpipes on a 3" exhaust system. You're still going to have a restriction. You can get a pre-bent 1/2" for under $140 at Inline Tube.
mr 4 speed Mar 3rd, 04, 1:52 PM Drop the tank, and get a 3/8 sender in the tank, and run 3/8 all the way up if you don't want 1/2"..this assuming you have factory 5/15" lines now..

Isnt it the same principle when you go to all the trouble to to put bigger fuel line on, and then it just runs into a tiny little needle & seat or 2 @ the carb.
