Jacques is a racer, so I can just imagine how hard it was for him to say he will "drift to the back" before the start at Talladega. Guess that decision comes from Bill Davis Racing. Agree, tough to get your feet wet at this track and he did have an incident in the truck race yesterday. But that decision has got to be eating his guts out. In the end it is probably a wise decision so I congratulate the team for taking that approach.

All that being said, I wish Jeff Gordon (who I respect as a great driver) would just keep his mouth shut and quit whining.

Just my opinion.

i dont like JV, but he shouldnt be told not to race just because there is that stupid Chase going on. There are 30 other drivers that could cause a big one and mess up someone's title hopes, its unfair to single out JV.

That's one of the biggest, most courteous things I've seen in Nascar in awhile. Good way to earn some respect as well. Daren

I agree! I was a little concerned about him starting up front. For him to willingly give up his sixth starting spot and drop to the back shows alot of class and he deserves some respect for that.

I remember the old days of stock car racing, when there was no "Top 35 Rule", no provisionals, etc. The only thing you had to do to "deserve" to race was show up and be one of the 40 fastest in qualifying. I guess when Mario Andretti waxed all the good old boys at Daytona back in 1967, if Kyle Bush or Jeff Gordon had been there they would have said Mario needed some experience first. What a bunch of whiners. Montoya is already better than 90% of the NASCAR drivers and Villeneuve will quickly be better too.

And when someone tells him he is driving race cars, not bumper cars, he'll probably show it.

I know the open wheel guys look down on the "taxi cab drivers" but they need to learn that it's not a video game.

Sure he'll get some respect for the move - but I don't see it as courteous. I see it as a move to get some race experience at 'Dega before he wrecks himself and others, or before someone else wrecks him. Self preservation at it's finest. Remember who else is on the track. There are a good number of drivers who think they're the only one's out there. He raced well there and I would assume all the complaining will end here.

I didn't see the end of the race, I think I saw the first 80 or so. Jacques finished something like 20th or 21st. That's not too bad for his cup debut. I enjoyed watching him in open wheel, not Formula 1, and yeah I'm cheering for him because of the Canadian aspect as well. Daren
