: Are these rules 'typical'
OUChevelleSS Jan 26th, 05, 8:41 PM I guess these are mainly safety rules, but are they typical to your local tracks? I've never ran a car at the strip before but would like to try when I get my new powertrain in. But for some reason to my friend and I, our track seems to be pretty restrictive about things. Again, I don't know, and I'm all for safety first, but just curious...

onovakind67 Jan 26th, 05, 9:03 PM What rules are you worried about?
BillK Jan 26th, 05, 9:07 PM Taylor,
I did not look at your link, but most tracks follow either NHRA or IHRA rules, depending on which organization they are sanctioned through.
OUChevelleSS Jan 26th, 05, 9:26 PM The rules I was curious about were like, 13.9 or faster you need a helmet? I just don't remember that when I went to watch my friend race in his Camaro, which was running 13.8x, and he didn't get kicked out for no helmet or anything. Also, maybe the helmet rules seem kind of silly to me because a 13.9 doesn't seem all that fast to me (or maybe I'm just used to everyone's fast times here). Also a roll bar for 13.49 to 11.00 I think is what it said? Seems kind of unneccisary. But again, I dunno..
hoffbug Jan 26th, 05, 9:32 PM It looks like basic NHRA stuff. Our local track requires helmets on all drivers-period.
mr 4 speed Jan 26th, 05, 9:36 PM Rollbar rule is 11.50
used to be 11.99
..always wear a helmet
Motor Martyr Jan 26th, 05, 9:37 PM Mine as well, helmets on every driver. I got quite a few questions about my "john force helmet" when i was going 17's with the 6 cylinder.
Slowpoke70 Jan 26th, 05, 9:56 PM 13.49 to 11.00 Roll bar rule is for CONVERTIBLES.
You'll be fine in a hard top car. Mr. 4 Speed stated the roll bar rule for roofed cars.
Brian, ALL drivers need helmets at your track? That's pretty weird, but I can't blame them for covering their butts incase a 20 second car crashes due to driver error.
Bob West Jan 26th, 05, 10:34 PM The helmet deal is a good idea for everyone,,,just in case your 20 second car gets hit by an out of shape 10-12 second car, which can happen at any TNT night.
Motor Martyr Jan 26th, 05, 10:49 PM Enrique, yeah, everyone. No down side to that implication, especially when you can rent a brain bucket for 3 dollars.
mines a $300 full face simpson, but i like my head and want my own helmet. as well i'm going 11's at as much as 117mph now.
Harold Sutton Jan 26th, 05, 10:56 PM Helmets aren't required above 13.99 in IHRA but are reccommended. That means that this year they will probably be mandatory like NHRA. This came out of a 2003 book so i don't know what changes have been laid out for 2005.
Pat Kelley Jan 27th, 05, 12:24 AM The only rule I saw that was different then my track is the "Hood: Mandatory" rule. Here you can run without a hood if you run an air cleaner.
Greybeard Jan 27th, 05, 1:50 PM A car running 13.9 could be running close to 100mph in the traps. Blow a tire, turn it sideways, hit something, and we get this ground/sky/ground/sky syndrome. I guy can get his head thrown about, bust out the side window, even smack the pavement. I've raced for over 40 years and can recall dozens of times cars ended dirty side up. I saw a person climb out of one at the old Puyallup Raceway one night, talked to the aid people, and then fall to the ground, dead. Rules are made to maximize the chances of survival just in case somebody gets behind in their steering.
VERY TRUE story. 10 days ago on the road that goes past the home I'm building, I heard a "thump". I was on the roof but I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Within about 30 seconds a car stopped kinda behind some tall vegitation, and someone started yelling. I climbed off the roof and ran up to road to find a man laying on the payment. As I approached, I could see blood running from his head and into the ditch 6-7 FEET away. The man had been scateboarding without a helmet. He had gray hair above the ears and temples so he wasn't young and had probably scateboarded for a long time. He'll never do it again.
If a person can die in a 5mph fall from a scateboard, they can die from a 100 mph crash in a car. If someone dies, and the track could have had rules that would have prevented the death, lawsuits are probable. Lawsuits kill businesses. A dead racetrack means we can't race. So, read and obey the rules, so that the rest of us have a racetrack to play on.
Slowpoke70 Jan 27th, 05, 2:37 PM I didn't check the link again, but I don't remember seeing anything about fuel lines. You can't have more than 12" of rubber fuel line on the car.
Steel braided hose is not considered rubber for this though.
thunderstruck507 Jan 27th, 05, 7:03 PM when are u going?
I want to go to Tulsa sometime to get a full 1/4 not just an 1/8th
pdq67 Jan 27th, 05, 7:46 PM Helmets -- good idea but I was told a story where they picked one up after a motorcycle accident out front of the old Brick Plant and the poor guys head was still in it..
How sad, it really got to me..
