After mocking up my 498, the machinest found the following:

The rods hit the block in the area near the camsheft......so so me relief grinding will need to be done. No problem at the pan rails.

The pistons ended up 0.000 to +0.004" above the deck. And with a .040" gasket, this leaves .036" clearance....at the minimum. He does not think that's enough in a stroker engine. He would like to see .045"....all dur to the fact that the crank will likely flex a bit.

Comments?

I'm going to have to either machine the pistons, or find out if FelPro makes a thicker gasket. He torque plated the engine using the FelPro 1027 gasket, and says we need to stick with that type of gasket during assembly.

Seems there is something amiss at every step of this project.....which seems to be typical.

I meant the 1017-1 gasket

.036 is plenty unless you are planning on 8000 or somethin or are running too much piston clearance.
If you want more use the 1017-2. .051 thick

I recommend you to mill some pistons off to get the same clearance.

Im using a 0.32 gasget on a zero decked/milled piston.

Steeel rods? 0.36 will be fine with steel rods.

Thanks Mike.
I'll discuss with my guy, and good to know there is an alternate gasket.

i use only 0.033inch in my 540.works fine even above 7000 rpm.stroke is only 4.00.crank is billet piece rated at 1500 +hp.4340 h-beam rods and ross dished custom pistons(bore 4.635).
