: So I finally went to the 1/4...

So I finally took my car to the 1/4 tonight.

Complete street trim-- 285/40/17 Ectsa MX tires @ 32 psi, left the stereo box and amps in the trunk, straight 91 octane California gas from the Chevron station. I don't have an accurate weight yet but I'm throwing the car on some Racecomp corner scales tomorrow. I expect it to be about 3900-4000 lbs with me in it. (A/C, power steering, hydroboost, big intercooler, subwoofer box & amps in trunk, lots of sound insulation, etc.)

Keep in mind my car is not set up for drag at all-- heavy 750/200 lb springs (almost no weight transfer), low profile tires, etc.

Best passes were made in the right lane all night. I ran the left lane twice; on one run the rear cut loose at 90mph in 3rd gear so I shortshifted to 4th and it cut loose again at 115. 2nd time in the left lane I was easier on the right pedal but it still hazed 4th gear off. They were only occasionally sending people down the left and there was no heat in that lane.

Best pass of the night was as follows...

60' 2.33
330' 6.344
1/8 9.230 @ 89.999
1000' 11.479
1/4 13.354 124.67mph

When it would hook in 3rd and 4th it would consistently gain about 34-35 mph in the last half of the track.

My next plan is to get some 16 x 10 rear wheels (15" wheels will not clear my brakes) and some stickier tires and see what will happen if I can put the power down earlier. It will either be a big improvement of the timeslip or a smoked clutch. :p

134 id say traction problems!! thats mid 9`s all day long, if you can get it to hook better?

boost controller? or
lower the boost?

you def need to improve your 1/8, with traction-when i ran my procharged 71, 383, i was running 10.50's at about 128, street trim, but i had drag radials-its pretty hard to have a handling car and 1/4 mile performer-if you dont have one, a roll bar may be needed with the mph, depending on how close they watch you
your def making power

Your rear end unloads upon heavy braking and the front does most of the work. They do make some Drag Radials in the 17" sizes that you might consider if you like the look, never heard of anything in 16".

His 17" wheels aren't "about the look", they're there to help the car do what it was built to - corner and stop. When you're running fast AND turning AND braking pretty often you're going to want as much braking power as possible. (rumor has it this car has also made some 150mph+ runs on public roads too, definately want the car to stop well during one of those).

I'm guessing he's just hitting the strip for some fun. If it were my car, and it were built to corner and brake for open road driving and road course racing, I'd have a hard time changing stuff that would mess with road racing ETs in order to get better drag racing ETs

I hear you Harold. If the car was drag-only I would have gone with brakes that allowed a 15" wheel-- and that option did cross my mind when I bought the brakes. However my brakes get heavily used... frequently. I'm lucky to get 10K out of a set of pads. In fact my rear pads are due for changing again very shortly. Even the rears get a real workout judging by the heat in them. And since I plan on sticking this thing on a roadcourse I need all the rotor mass I can get given the weight of the car.

My car is a street-friendly car above all else. I drive it a LOT on the street and street manners are my #1 priority. Getting it to survive a 20 minute session on a roadcourse is my #2 priority and getting it to post a decent 1/4 mile time is my #3 priority. I'm currently working towards goal #2 so breather catch tanks, good shocks, front brake ducting, and re-doing my dash (so I can more easily see my gauges in case of oil starvation) are at the top of the list right now.

I didn't shift the thing hard last night either. I don't really like powershifting the thing in the first place and with the track/tire combination last night hard shifts just would have sent it up in smoke.

My current tune is still fairly conservative on timing. If/when I go back to the track I plan on playing with that to see if can pick up any MPH. I had a lot of fuel tuning to do last night. My WOT mixture was fine but with all the part-throttle pedaling I was having to do for traction the engine was operating in areas that it typically doesn't see on my VE table (and thus I never got a good tune in those areas) so I had to do some tweaking.

As far as sticky tires, I was leaning towards some 26 x 11.50-16 or 26 x 12.50-16 ET Streets or 295/50/16 ET Street Radials.

OK, just got back from putting the car on some Racecomp corner scales.

This is with a 1/2 tank of fuel (I raced with 3/4 tank last night, so about an additional 6-7 gallons)

No driver:

LF 1028 RF 1042
LR 833 RR 850
Total: 3753#, 55.2% F / 44.8% R

With me in it:
LF 1098 RF 1049
LR 876 RR 882
Total: 3905#, 55.1% F / 44.9% R

So with another 6.5 gallons of fuel last (density about 6.2 lb/gal) night I figure the car was right around 3950#.

Troy, awesome trap speed! Sucks about the lack of traction though. I'm sure you had fun. All I know is your car pulls HARD on the street. The quarter mile time doesn't even come close to showing how bad arse your car is. My best is 13.38 @ 104 with BFG radial t/a's, so it's safe to say if you get your car to hook you're going to be WAY faster :D . Your car is pretty dang heavy too. A great all-around machine IMO. Can do just about everything quite well.

Troy....right on bro glad to see you your car out to the strip! Now we have to get mine ready for the 20th! We gotta line them up....but only if you still have the street tires on cause if you ever hook your gonna RUN past me. You got to bring it back out on the 20th cause quite a few guys wanna check it out and drool over it. Thanks again for the intake studs! Talk to you later...Ron

PS....gonna have to work on getting Mikey to get his big bad velle out to the track!
