: Vinyl top or not

I like the look of a VT but also like the look of a solid color. I had a small piece of pipe fall from my rafters onto the top of my 68 and left a pretty noticeable scratch (down to metal, no dent). I have been trying to touch it up but the touch up paint is very noticeable and really stands out. I even had it matched but because it is metallic it doesnt lay down right and the light catches it at a wieird angle. I figure a VT would cover this up along with another small chip that I have tried to touch up and also LOOK good. Ive done one before so i know i could do it but id have to by some repro trim and top and am not sure if they fit like originals (the trim, that is)
Should i go this route? Or is there a better way to get a bad scratch out?

I love the look of a vinyl top, although it does promote rust in areas where you'll never see it until it's too late to catch it. It sounds like the scrape you have will definitely require a touch up. Your best bet if you want to stay away from the vinyl would be to bring it to a paint and body shop and get their advice. It can more than likely be spot painted and blended with very little differentiation.

IMO the color of your car really stands out and looks great without the VT.

If you decide to sell it some time, I would think it would sell quicker without the vinyl top.
