I have cut my door jambs, inside areas of doors, around trunk lid in with base coat/clear coat. Marina blue.
I still need to block the outside of the car and then shoot it also with b/c.
My question is this: How do I blend my outside of the car with the already finished areas IE; door jambs.
Can I block sand right up to those areas?
Then base and clear?
Thanks in advance for any help?

I know someone out there has the answer to this.
Any help please. I'm just a little confused and wondering if maybe I went about this paint job wrong.

Ok let me see if I can explain this. Back in the lacquer days if we just wanted to spray let say the bottom of a fender and not the top. we would run a piece of tape along the ridgeline of that fender leaving half of the tape pressed tight on top of the fender, where we did not want any paint and just let the remainding half width of the tape hang out not touching anything. We would just rub the tape with the palm of our hand to kind of curl it back so there was no definative tape line. The tape would hang over the side of the fender we were painting and slightly protect that spot along the ridge acting to feather the amount of paint that went to that area and when finished there was no heavy buildup or tape line showing and buffing took care of the rest, woo! Did that make any sense?
Hey I'm glade you asked because I'm going to be doing the same thing next year and I'm still not sure how to go about it.

BTW tell me more about those front seat of yours, they look great!

ok, I read the article but I still would like some more input.
I know you guys out there do this all time so, Can you please elaborate on prep and what the taping method is on already base/cleared areas?
Do I tape like the article said for a "soft line" on my inside fender edges where they meet the hood and truck lip also?
thanks again in advance for any help!

The seats were done locally at Fullers Uphosltery in Watagu,tx. He had to sew extra material on the listings to get them hog ringed in. "the girl in the pic" that's my goofy teenager....

Back to the original question;
Can anyone elaborate on how to go about blocking up to areas like the door jambs ect. (I'm concerned about leaving a witness with blocking ect) and then how to base/clear up to those areas.
Thanks!

After wet sanding the outside of the vehicle, all you gotta do is apply tape to the inside of the door edge, close the door gently and push the tape in to your desired line inwhich you can easying wetsand and polish up.. This will be IMO the most effective way and the easyist

thanks, but I'm not following what you are saying about the tape "apply tape to the inside of the door edge, close the door gently and push the tape in to your desired line "
When applying the tape to the door do you let it hang over the edge with the sticky side out?

Usually on a show car I will give the door jambs a scuff and shoot them also so you get no lines, edges of hood and fenders also. On a driver you can buy 3M Apeture Tape (soft Foam) with a sticky side that you put in the jamb and leaves a soft line that could be easily buffed up. It also fills the gaps so overspray will not get in the jambs.
