Just a quick update for those that read the results from my 1st trip 2 weeks ago. I bought new MT ET Drags 28x10.5. Went out today and got to make 2 passes before I managed to poke a small hole in one of my slicks. Nope, not running tubes.
1st run

1.513
4.395
6.839@100.76
8.958
10.759@124.76

2nd run

1.546
4.427
6.869@101.05
8.986
10.785@124.91

I think the tire shop did a crappy job balancing the tires. Somewhere right in the middle of 2nd gear I started getting some vibrations that gradually got more intense until the finish. After the 1st run I put the rear up on jacks to spin the tires to get a better idea of the problem. The vibration got progressively worse as tire rpm went up.

The 2nd pass I was directed to the left lane (ran in right lane 1st pass). I leaned on the converter upto about 2200 on this pass (1500 on 1st pass). Once back in the pits I decided to do 1 more pass in the right lane at 2200 launch to see if any differences. BUT when I walked around the back side of the tire I noticed the right rear tire was FLAT. I'll have the flat fixed and both tires rebalanced before the next trip. Hopefully that will take care of my bad vibes.

Everything was the same as the first trip with regard to the motor. Weather was similar- low 80's and 70% humidity. Tires were at 15lbs.

John,

Good to see you are getting some track time with the new set-up. graemlins/thumbsup.gif How addicting is the power of the new mill? graemlins/beers.gif

Sorry to hear about the problems with the new slicks. Did you actually get a hole or did you break the seal on the bead?

How is the car leaving the line? Spinning much? I heard the track has been pretty bad over the last week or so due to all of the rain. I heard the track surface was under water.

It will be interesting to see what it does in a month or so when the temps drop a little and you get it dialed in a little more.

Jason, yep, starting to get used to the power/car. Managed to stay away from the rev limiter this trip. I short shifted 1st around 6000 (6200 shift light never came on) and 6500 for 2-3 shift. The launch felt a little better than the last trip but the tires still feel like they spin just a hair on the launch.

I thought about the bead since I'm not using any rim screws. I thought that might explain the wheel balance issue too. BUT NOPE, its a small hole. You can hear it hissing away when aired up.

Yeah, I'm curious to see what happens in some cool dry air. It was pretty "soupy" today. I may just wait a month or so before I go back. That will give me time to replace the starter, coat the headers, fix tires, etc....

I'd like to make 1 more trip before I start messing with the suspension. Once the suspension has been adjusted to optimum I'll go ahead and play with timing/jetting. Hell, by then the air may be cool enough for my current jetting cause its a little fat right now.

John,
Just curious...was this with the 950HP? ;)

Bill, no, still the bg750. I won't be making any changes to the engine tune (be it jetting, timing, hp950, etc) until I'm content with the hook.

Nice thought though! ;)

I tried to get my slick repatched when i got some free slicks (one had a slow leak). The tire shop refused; saying since the tire heats up and the different compound the patch would not work.

Nice times John. It sucks about the slicks though. Where abouts is Magnolia, I might come watch you run if its not to far. I migt even bring my ride if I get it back togther.

Kewl John.

My car likes 12.5 to 13 pounds of air in that size tire. Hooked the best with 13.

Gotta get them Hot tho. ;)

...or you could put more air in them, and haze them.

Chris, Magnolia is northwest of Houston. I race at HRP in Baytown. Where is Burkburnett? Does'nt sound close.

Rob, I thought about the patch deal. I just wait and see what the tire shop says. If it won't patch then I'll just have to go with a tube.

Greg-Done. ;)

Marooned- the et streets always ran best with 14lbs. Any higher and it would spin more. Might have something to do with running a 10" slick on an 8" rim. More pressure=more crown. A 10" rim would probably let me run more pressure but won't fit the car.

Brian- nope, last name is Wilson, not Force. Short and sweet for me.
