Just became the proud new owner of a 66 SS 396 Chevelle (138 car) and am planning a full restoration. not sure which of us has better weathered the years, but I will say the car is straight and true, solid body and running gear, but needs near complete interior and the body and paint need the full course. I am trying to find out more about the car, firewall plate lists
02C 8026
ST 66-13817 KAN 8084
TR 709-A M/M Paint
W 2LR
I know the 66, 138, 17 and 8084 and I believe the TR 709-A is for trim which is fawn as is the interior and bucket seats.
The 02C in the uper left corner, the 8026 in the upper right corner and the W 2LR I have not found any information...anyone that can help??
Not a body person, so am looking for a good (really means very good) person or shop to finish interior, body and paint. I realize many may advertize, but looking for recommends for top finishers.
Am also looking for interior parts and pieces, will be more specific in classifieds.
last but not least, as a young fellow I owned a 69 GTO, and then a couple of Trans Ams, I still have my last Trans Am and it's close to finished in as new condition, but why would a fellow who had a Poncho history want A chevy?
In the fall of 66 (I was 15) we were standing across from the high school having a smoke when we heard a siren, start then almost as soon as it started, stop. A few moments later a dazzaling red car came over the hill, holding to the speed limit. The squat, ready to pounce look and that high winding sound of the motor and transmission ( in first..i think.. at about 30 MPH) was a sight I'll never forget. This car floated past us, wraith like, in total control of it's surrondings including us... who stood as statues in awe of a total visual and audio harmony we had never witnessed before. The Car held it's pace passing the school coming to a stop at the corner. It turned onto the highway and with three short shifts and three short squeals was a tiny red star in the distance. Those moments were defining, not just to me, but to most all of us standing there. To us it was a baptisim into an era that defined a youth and an age and is still defining 40 years later.
As for the siren, a cruiser came up the same hill slowed for the school and as it passed us it's lone occupant watched that red star disappear into the distance. The cruiser pulled a U turn and as it came back past us the window rolled down and that lone occupant smilled and with long whistle said "hell I just wanted to get a look at it"
