I'm looking at getting new lines either from rightstuffdetailing or inline tube. Should I get the stainless or OM? I've done a search and the general consensus is that stainless is better, but a PITA to install. Is the prebent SS going to go in alright or halfway through am I going to wish I had OM? thanks for your thoughts.

Stainless 100% better but it is harder to bend and flair. If you get the pre-bent kit, You may need to do a little "tweeking" but you shouldn't have a problem. I plan on getting my SS kit from our sponsor, Ground Up

If you are going for a correct restoration go with the original stuff. It holds up very well and will last many years. The stainless is hard to seal.

I used the carbon steel on my 69 from rightstuffdetailing.com and was a perfect fit.

Go with Stainless. The Right Stuff Kit is a perfect fit.

I got everything stainless from inlinetube. Everything fit perfectly. No tweaking required. This was for a 71 hard top. It arrived with in three days of ordering to boot!

Thanks for your comments. I called both rightstuff and inline to talk to each. Rightstuff answered all my questions and was very helpful. The inline guy did not seem at all pleased to be at work that day. I think I'll be ordering rightstuff stainless steel on monday. If anyone has any last minute advice or cautions let me know.

I had a different experience with Inline just today actually. This week i needed new brake lines due to my fault but i called them asking for a set of stainless front lines and the guy went out of his way to make sure that they were the right lines for my application.

One thing I've both heard and read is the difficulty in sealing the stainless. Part of the problem arises from the new lines being mated to an older surface ( like your master cylinder or proportioning valve, which may not be perfect ) which has lead to leaks for some. I was told way back in 1994 (when I bought my first set ) to tighten the fittings, loosen them, then tighten them again to assist in preventing leaks. Never had a leak. I don't know if they would have been alright anyways, but it only took me an extra few minutes when I did my install, so it was time well spent, IMHO.
