Has anyone bought an after market counsel from year one? I'am thinking about putting one in my 1969 Chevelle and would like to find out if they are worth the money. I'am not doing a resto. just wanting to put in a nice looking counsel. I switched from bench seat to bucket seats and I think it would be better looking than just putting in a shifter.

I built a 70 SS 454 Sta. Wgn. Installed 70 Buckets. Now needed a consol to fill the gap in the center. What I ended up with has a storage compartment with an arm rest. Also you have a choice of about " 50 " different styles. It cost $10.00 at a J-Yard. LOOK at some S-10s consols.
It is the only CHEEP one that is a perfect fit for the space between the 70 buckets. Just another idea to throw in the pot!!!!!!!!!!

Our '05 Jimmy has the five speed with a console. I saw a picture of one of these in a Chevelle. Not exactly factory but fit fine and does have a couple of cup holders, console box, and a change tray. Makes a nice armrest when driving as well.

True Connections only sells those repro consoles assembled now due to the large number of problems cusotmers had making the after market crap fit together well. It costs a few bucks more (not much) but it's worth it. They siad thay had so many returned by frustrated customers who tried to assemble it themselves that they decided to do it this way. They said once you assemble 10 or 20 of them you can get the hang of it but doing one, once is a bear and the results of the parts fitment can be iffy. I bought one they assembled and they did an excellent job of assy. No complaints on the assy. They made everything fit well. It looks great. Worth the price of having it assembled by them.
note: I think the box latch is cheesey but that's not their fault. I wouldn't plan on using that door latch very much. It doesn't stirke against metal when closing it. It strikes against plastic. Won't take long to wear that down with lots of use.
