Hello,
I am looking at some possibilities for a 327 build-up, I was interested in how the factory '64 327 crank is going to hold up, if I put a good set of rods, and forged pistons, along with good ARP hardware. I searched and was unable to find much info on people running the factory crank in nitrous/turbo/supercharged applications.
Thanks,
John

Just guessing, but I bet it'll hold 600HP.

Thanks for the reply, I'm going to bump this back up to the top, in hopes that someone else has some insight.

John,
I think, assuming you keep the tune-up correct that the old forged crank was very capable of handling a lot of power,, how much is debatable.
Consider this, I used to drive one of the fastest blown alcohol small blocks in the country & in the first year or so it was using stock 350 cranks stroked .080" by offset grinding which tends to weaken the crank because of lost overlap to 358/364cu"'s in a GM block & running 6.70's at over 200 & some pretty serious RPM.
The cranks would USUALLY BUT NOT ALWAYS :D ,, last 2 or three races before being replaced due to cracks.
Problem is, all these cranks are now over 40 years old plus, everything fails eventually & you have no idea of how many cycles or what kind of loading these cranks have had.
So,,,, if you are considering blowers, turbos or serious nitrous I would suggest adding a quality crank along with splayed center caps & billet front & rear or at a minimum staps to your shopping list ;)
