: Comp Cams roller lifter
InsuranceGuy Mar 21st, 04, 8:33 PM After chasing a loose lash(three adjustments), I decided its time to remove the intake and see
what is causing my #3 exhaust rocker arm lash to
loosen after only about one minute of run time. By
this time I was expecting the worse...and it was what I expected.

I tried removing the lifter but it has mushroomed so it will have to be removed from the bottom after the cam is removed. These lifters are only about two years old and have about 500 miles on them. The bottom roller part is totally gone and
what is left has wiped out my new billet cam lobe.
This definately calls for a complete teardown. Right now, I don't know if I will just repair
the damaged items, a full rebuild or buy one of those 555 short-blocks advertised in National Dragster.

BillK Mar 21st, 04, 8:54 PM Emi,
Just curious ... what type of spring pressures are you running ?
69 Ratt Vette Mar 21st, 04, 9:05 PM Let me guess, Endurex lifter ?
What are your cam specs.
Tom Mobley Mar 21st, 04, 11:02 PM I sent you an email to the address you've got listed in your profile.

Your link doesn't seem to work.
Don't really need to see a pic though, I have seen what lifters do :(
I have lost two rollers in rats with Comp's lifters in the past couple of years.
One was with hyd rollers on the dyno with like 5 pulls on it, a link broke that holds the two lifters together & it was ugly.
The other had about 1000-1500 miles on it but the customer caught it & it didn't do any damage before replacement.
They were replaced with Isky's along with a new cam & last I heard he has about 6000 miles on the engine with no problems
Same question as mr rat,,
Yours wasn't the "Endurex" lifter by chance was it? These will not take any kind of normal roller spring pressure & are "designed" ( I use this word very loosley) to use with their cast street rollers.
I know this does not help but this is why I will not build a roller engine especially for the street using anything but Isky Red Zone Lifters.
I will use the Crower Severe Duty with the hi pressure oiling option also but I prefer the Isky's because they are rebuildable.
There may be others that are ok but I prefer to use what I feel is the best.
Just not a real good place to skimp.
Gokou Mar 22nd, 04, 1:24 AM Ditto what Mike said on the Red Zones. GREAT lifters. About the best thing going, especially for a motor that sees any amount of street miles. If I were running a solid roller, I would not run anything else. Still, don't forget to check them from time to time!
As mentioned... don't even get me started on the Endure-X... Another case where the marketing department got a bit overzealous and a lot of people paid for it. A good friend/engine builder refers to them as Explode-X, for good reason.

InsuranceGuy Mar 22nd, 04, 11:33 AM Bill, I bought my aluminum BowTie heads used so I don't have the exact specs on the
springs but they are not extreme because they are just
the 1.535" 2 spring w/Damper. I had a machine shop clean/inspect the heads
after I bought them and they said they flowed 385cfm and the springs
were fine and would work with my relatively small cam.
69Vette, no these are not the ENDURE-X lifters. These are the #883 Super
Roller .300 taller body. The cam is a Chet Herbert billet roller 258 270 @ .050
.685 .683
Mike, I haven't decided which brand I will be going back with but it will definately
be Isky or Crower.
