would like some opinions on whether to use my existing .010/.010 cast crank or go with a .010/.010 steel crank #7416 that i picked up.i just took my motor down to freshen it up and put new brngs in it.i run 7/16 dimple rods. the cast crank weighs 6 lbs less than the steel one. and my cast crank has survived many 6500 power shifts
in my 11.20 121mph 4/speed chevelle. not crazy about adding weight to the rotating assy.it is externally balanced setup. what do you guys think? thanks ray.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. you have had no problems and I don't think you want to pay for another internal balance. Save the crank for your next engine. If you race it you will need another sooner or later.

i would stick to the cast as well.....just because of the weight issue....i too have ran many years with a cast crank in my bbc running them to 7000 rpms and i even have one in my current 454 that is in the 10's on a good day with traction..........im sure there is a limit on the cast cranks and the first time i break one then i will go steel.......i have yet to toast a motor going down the 1/4 mile in the 10 plus years i been running........so in a way im looking forward to the day something breaks and goes south........give me a good reason to buy bigger and better parts.....

i know some would say you got it use it and it would be cheaper to put it in now then wait til it breaks and make for more damage........but you never know....maybe you would put that sucker in and it breaks first time out.....never know...in a way i think maybe cast is alittle more forgiving since it would flex alittle more then a steel crank......but it a toss up if the cast has been working stick with it....some day you can use the steel for something else......im sure opinions will very..........
