: Holley Dichromate Finish

Has anyone ever sent their carb back to Holley to have the dichromate redone on a holley carb? I have a 4781-2 and need to get it freshened up because it's been rode hard and put away wet...If anyone knows how much it is or if I'd be better off just putting an epoxy coating on it let me know...Although I think the plating is better because it coats all the internals as well.

Thanks,

Josh
:beers:

I did..... they did a great job on the rebuild.... but don't like their restoration finish at all. :sad: Doesn't look at all like new out of the box.
There's a guy on here that I've seen pic's of his work and it looks great... I'll see if I can find my earlier thread on the subject.

Josh;

I wouldn't recommend the spray can stuff under any circumstances--you're better off leaving the carb alone than putting that stuff on it. You're exactly right in regards to the internal surfaces as well--while many people think the gold/green finish on a carb is there for looks, it's main purpose is actually corrosion protection, not aesthetics.

I can send you some links regarding carb restoration work, but out of respect for this site I don't want to post them in the open forum. If you'd like, send me a PM and I'll send them to you.

Seb and Wilma;

Thanks. :)

I'll second this remark. For years I've touted Holley's rebuild service. The rare carb I sent them years ago came back looking great and has performed great as well. But, now that I know more about carb finishes and what they SHOULD look like, I'm not entirely upset that the finish Holley put on it has begun to fade and wash off. I'll probably have it redone at some point by Eric at Vintage.

Eric also helped me out recently with helping me find a very rare part I needed to fix my rare carb. He'll get all my carb work in the future.
