: Blue 67, blower, Georgia plates in south MS
troutdog Oct 3rd, 07, 3:34 PM I have been seeing a lot of Chevelles in the past three days. I saw this blue 67 SS at the gas station with a blower and Georgia plates. It was being pulled by a red Chevrolet truck. I wanted to make conversation and ask if they were Team Chevelle members.
Their were two men,, the first (dark hair late 30's) man approached me I asked You a Team Chevelle member?,, he looked at me crazy and walk right on by.
The second guy approached me (Gray hair early 40's) I loudly said excuse me sir are you a Team Chevelle member? I could tell he herd me but walked right on by me.
I was HIGHLY disappointed,, I wanted to talk to them, but I just got in my car and drove off. I don't have any luck talking to chevelle guys. They act funny. I mean I have 2 1/2 chevelles :) and sleep\eat chevelles. I know one guy around here that has a 66, but he is a complete ass, so I don't talk to him.
I guess I'm in a different league, I don't have a mint, numbers matching SS. My 66 is # matching but it's a 4 door.
Every time I see chevelles in the wild :) I want to know their story. I'll see one on the hwy and show off my Team Chevelle sticker, but end up looking like an idiot. Well I guess I just keep my mouth shut....
There I feel a little better,,,

Great post!
I have the same deal sometimes but I think it's kind of like they can "smell fear". You know, sort of like dealing with a dog you don't know for the first time. If you show fear, they can turn on you. But, show confidence and they'll bring you into their pack. Show arrogance, well, I wouldn't know about that :D
I could be wrong, but this is just how it seems sometimes.
pist0lpete Oct 3rd, 07, 11:02 PM Man from the sounds of the conversation they should have had a corvette on that trailer rather than a chevelle. They need to leave that snotty attitude to the vette guys. I have had good luck around talking to fellow "Chevellers." Matter of fact I talked to a girl in her early twenties they other day about her 67 malibu convertible a nice little cruiser and she was the owner!
Sometimes you see a cool old Chevelle, walk up to the driver or owner and want to talk about the car, but sometimes they just aren't car people. I would, however, expect that somebody who is trailering an old Chevelle with a blower sticking out through the hood IS a car guy.
Years ago I saw a really nice an sharp '67 Olds Cutlass Supreme convertible in Williamsburg VA. The elderly gentleman driving it was filling it up and checking the oil. Under the hood was a very clean, gold, 400 with chrome valve covers and the earliest air preheater duct that I'm aware of (rare). I noticed it had a rear stabilizer bar on it, but it was also running whitewall radials and factory wire wheel covers. I said to him "that is really unusual to see a 400 and a rear stabilizer bar like a 442 on a Cutlass Supreme." He looked at me blankly and said "what's a 442?" It didn't seem to me that he meant it as a retoracle question, he genuinely seemed perplexed by my interest. Maybe he gets asked about the car all the time and just likes to play dumb.
There is a totally stock and original '67 Chevelle 300 2-door post around here that I see once in a blue moon driven by an old guy. Once when I tried to engage him in conversation about his car he seemed tight-lipped. To him it was nothing but a cheap car (230, still no radio, only option was a Powerglide and a vintage suicide knob). It was well maintained but not pampered. I could see a minute amount of surface rust on what appeared to be original Nantucket Blue paint, but every time I see the car it never seems to get any worse. To him it's just a car, and he doesn't drive much.
By and large I find Chevelle buffs to be hands-on and very down to earth. I mean look at the activity in these forums!
As Chevelle nuts we may not understand the average person's lack of passion for their automobile, and they may not understand our obsession over it.
My late aunt was not a 'car' person but she loved her '67 Malibu. She would be happy to know that I have kept the car in her honor for the last 22 years. So too my older friend's late mother loved her '66 Beaumont Custom Sport Coupe. She was sad when the car car got too rusty underneath and was scrapped  (today it would have been a keeper).
BTW Troutdog, are you by any chance a scary-looking or intimidating looking guy? I really mean no offence by the question.:) If so, that might be in some part responsible for the reactions you get.
:beers:
troutdog Oct 4th, 07, 6:29 PM Thanks for the feedback guys. I mowed the yard today and thoght about it. I guess it was due to the fact they were in the Mississippi woods and some old gas station.
I'm 27, 5.10" 160lbs. Had my Coors Light shirt on. :)...................That's why they didn't talk :).
There having Cruise On The Coast this week on the Gulf Coast. The biggest one since Katrina. I'd like to go but work'n all weekend. I guarantee if I talked to all the Chevelle guys I've seen %90 would talk. I just chose to talk to the wrong ones or bad timing. My timing was a little high :).
Thanks

Dragn70 Oct 6th, 07, 2:54 PM some people are car guys and some people just have money and try to look the part.

Ya' know I've heard that about Corvette folks quite afew times but all the Corvette owners that I've met don't fall into that catagory at all.
I went to a little Corvette show about a year or so ago and everyone of them were very nice and seemed to love talking to me (an outsider) about the cars or anything else.
Tom Parsons <DZAUTO> is a Corvette owner.
