For Future sale:
IMO, it depends on how original the car is... If everything is original (engine, trans, etc), then you might want to keep it completely original...

If the motor was replaced, car repainted a more popular color, etc, then I'd go with bucket seats...

In my book, a bench seat is acceptible with a 4-speed though... and seems to be becoming a popular "option" to have on your classic car (probably because buckets are harder to find/more expensive...).

Personally, if it was originally a bench I'd leave it a bench. I think there is something cool about a factory hot rod with a bench seat. In the end, it's up to what you want to do with the car. If you are concerned with resale value, buckets would probably help on a modified car, but if it's got all it's original pieces and is a restored car I'd think the bench would help it's value in that case.

I like the buckets ......... BUT if you have a nice bench in there now ....... its not going to get you any more money at resale ..... when you figure in the cost of a set of buckets at close to 1500 dollars anymore  !!!

My '68SS is a 4-speed bench and I love the way it looks with the Hurst shifter and white ball (black int.) People say "WOW a 4speed" when they look in and see the shifter. It's more common to see a floor shift (man.or auto) with buckets/console, I also like the ride better with a bench..... you seem to sit up onto the steering wheel and not down low like in a bucket.

call me strange, when I got my 68 el camino running first thing I did was redo the factory bench. then I went and found what turned out to be 66 chevelle buckets. No headrests but in the 68 I really didnt care. Now a few months later I decided to go back to the bench. to me its just more comfortable. Of course I already sold the original bench. fortunately another chevelle fan kept his old bench when he installed buckets, so I picked it up yesterday and dropped it off at the upholstery shop last night. The buckets might not get you much more money if you go to sell your car. but, it will make it a lot easier to sell. Jim

I lucked out, I work part time with a owner of a upholstery shop. I brought a set of 66 chevelle frames and got it all done for $256 bucks. I paid $250 for the frames. When I decided to go with the bench and not use the buckets, I tried getting my money back, nobody locally would spend that kind of money on two seats. Jim

Your girl friend can snuggle up closer with a bench...that was important back in the day...who cares about resale;)

I also am at the same place! I have a nice factory bench but, and get this I Paid $100.00 for a SET of buckets in great shape out of a 68 olds 442. The guy even took them out of the car for me! The adapters are available through NPD to put the buckets in for like $18.00. I think I am keeping the bench even though I put the buckets in. I will then be able to switch them out I guess. Your choice man either are cool.
