Hey Folks,

What is the best way to remove a stubborn cylinder head from the block ? I have tried gently tapping a large flat head screw driver under the head near the front of the block but do not want to force it and damage the surfaces. Yes all the bolts are out.

Thanks guys.

You can try prying up,leveraging on the front part of the block. However I seriously doubt that you will hurt anything prying a screwdriver in there, provided all the bolts are out

I use a 3' section of 3/4" pipe stuck into either one of the intake ports or the head crossover. Use this leverage to pry upward as you tap up on the bottom of the head where it hangs over into the lifter valley. Pick a good thick spot to tap on, away from the ports. I avoid prying against the deck due to the risk of damage. I've used this process to pull some heads that others had totally given up on and have never damaged one. HTH
