Ok.........................I have a vinyl top 70 SS. One of the restoration books by Hart says the stripes on the rear end at the top of the deck lid. That they do not go on the paint up under the vinyl at the rear window.

Whats the truth and how do I verify it?

Thanx for the help

The assembly manuals say to end the stripes at the trunk lid on vinyl top cars and just before the the window trim on non-vinyl top car. With that said, every 70 thru 72 unrestored original car I've seen had the stripes painted ALL the way up to, and under the window molding. Both vinyl top cars and non vinyl top car were done this way. Bottom line: they didn't do what the assembly manual shows.

Since the stripes were applied before the vinyl top and before the trim, wouldn't logic dictate they go as close to the window as possible? Even if they knew the trim extended 'x' inches away from the window, masking that off would take more time than just extending them close enough to be hidden by the trim. Wonder how many painters looked at information and shrugged? :)
