I finally pulled my engine today after posting a few months back about my oil pressure jumpimg around after warm up. I was hoping to find a worn pump but it seems to be in good shape. As the engine idled, the oil pressure would jump up 10#, go back to normal, drop 10# and repeat. I used two guages so thats not the problem. Any other ideas befor I pull the caps off?

Did you try changing the filter?

Changed the oil and filter, checked the bypass, no change.

Is your oil pump pickup the screw in type? I had a similar problem with erratic oil pressure on my 540. Turns out that the screw in pickup had unscrewed and was sitting at a 45 deg angle to the floor of the oil pan. The high volume pump was sucking air at times.

I've been running the Meling z28 pump with the pick up JB welded to the pump. Everything was fine with that.

Been doing it for years, works great. My friends 4 banger block is held together with JB Weld, put over 100k on the busted block.

i use the mig to weld mine. somthing about jb weld under oil .wouldnt make me feel safe. not saying that it dosnt work
