Hi there ! I wonder if you experts out there would like to help me on this ? I have a -70 Chevelle with th400 + 355 sb and a gigantic cooler….also a Ford 9”rear ……If I would like to build a 454…WHAT COMBO SHOULD I USE ? The engine block, crankshaft, pistons, heads …..well I guess you know what I mean ! I’m looking for 450-500 hp with pumpgas but still a very good streetability ( if that is possible)……

I would be realy grateful for serious answers….//// KIM (Sweden)

" A gigantic cooler ".... ?? For beer? smile.gif Just kidding, what does that mean? Is it slang for something?

There are plenty of 454 combos here, from mild to wild.

Cooler = Radiator...sorry for my slight language problems smile.gif

smile.gif I just wanted to make sure you weren't talking about an intercooler for a turbo or somethng!

So mild or wild, or somewhere in between?

Somewhere in between is probably what I'm looking for....if you have suggestions about what to do with the gearbox (if anything) I'm interested in that to smile.gif //// KIM

Kim,my homepage link doesn't work..I tried to update it-sorry
my combo is:
.030 454
.100 domed Speed Pro hypertectic pistons (about 10.5 to 1 compression with .008 piston/deck clearance and 101 cc chamber heads)
stock rods w/ARP rod bolts
stock steel crank (cast is fine)
stock replacement oil pan (Milodon)
#215 closed chamber heads
stock,unported with stock 2.06/1.72 valves
stock rockers
Ultradyne flat tappet hydraulic 280/288 advertised
223/231 @ .050 .525/.550 112 LSA
Performer RPM
750 vacuum secondary Holley 3310
Accel blueprint HEI
1 3/4" primary tube headers
2.5" exhaust w/mandrel bent tails
Just a stock 454 built to 1970 LS5 specs with a cam,intake,and headers.
It's reliable combo as well.
I now have 3.31 gears.
It averaged 13.30-13.40's w/2.56's with a best of 12.99 in mineshaft air and perfect starting line condtions
I'm expecting 12.90's or better consistently once its dialed in with the new gears.
Trans is a stock TH400/2400 B&M Holeshot convertor

I opt for a more aggressive combo. All guys are so fast around here so youll need more power to get the girls. ;)

Use Ovalport heads 781/049 open or 215 Closed.

Aim for 10,5 compression. TRW/Speedpro pistons.

XR292R Streetroller with Crane veritcal roller lifters, good roller rockers, 939 springs. 2.19/1.88 valves.

Arp in rods, main, heads.

1-7/8 - 3" headers. TeamG intake 750/850DP

HEI

This will give you 600hp+ correct setup.

Its not so pricey anymore. US dollar is raped with swedish crowns. ;)
