: What cam would you guys suggest for me?

For those who don't know what's going on with my current problem/situation, I've recently been dealing with a lifter that's been making noise ( http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193101 ). If the lifter/cam is in deed my problem, then it looks like a new cam/lifter set up will have to be in my near future. I know that I can't just pick out any cam outta the catalogue, so that's why I'm here :) My current set up is a 391ci (daily driven), 9.5:1 C/R, Keith Black Hyperutectic pistons with I believe a 12cc D-dish cup, ported Bowtie heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, .488" I/E cam (have no idea what the rest of the specs are....lost the spec card years ago), Edelbrock RPM intake, Holley 750VS carb, 2" spacer, Hedman 1 3/4" headers, 2 1/2" exhaust with X-pipe, TH350 tranny, B&M Holeshot 2000 converter, 4.11s gears out back. I think that about sums it up :) I'm not really sure what my vavle springs can handle, but I think it's safe to assume that I can't run anything more then a .500" lift cam.

If I had the money, I would LOVE to upgrade my heads to some AFRs, go with a higher stall converter, and a disc brake/hydroboost set up so I wouldn't have to worry about engine vacuum :D

Currently, my set up has run a best of 13.3@102? on the 1/4 mile (sorry, don't remember exactly right now LoL :p ). I'm positive that it should've run at least a 13 flat because my 1/4 mile's 660' time was 3 tenths slower then my 1/8 mile's best at Irwindale (1/8 mile track) was, which is in my sig. :)

So yeah, I would deeply appreciate any and all help you guys can give me! :) I would LOVE to go with a cam above a .500" lift, but I know I would have to have stronger valve springs (which in reality, I would just be better off going with aftermarket heads), and make sure the valves would clear the pistons, along with making sure the cam provides enough vacuum to allow me to use my power brake (drum) set up. I do remember reading somewhere that a cam above .500" lift CAN be used with power brakes, but I believe the duration would have to be shorter (or something like that), to work properly :) Thanks! :beers:

Edit: I have NO problem going with a higher stall torque converter...just an FYI! LoL :D Oh yeah, and if at all possible, I would like to improve my car's ets with a better cam...if possible :)

What are the specs?

If you're going to run a Hyd cam, I'd think the 60104 would be better. It's the Voodoo 276/84 cam. Here's the specs

233/241 276/284 .504/.525 110LSA

Althought maybe w/ your current converter the 60103 might work better. But it might be too similar to your current cam. But then again, it is probably a lot more modern than your cam and it comes from a long line of UDHarold cams that are always proven to work

227/233 268/276 .489/.504 110lsa

Now if you're willing to step up to a nice solid cam...

Lunati 401A6 243/251 276/284 .518/.518 110LSA

This thing is a proven powerhouse, also a UDHarold cam. This cam seems to work very well in stroker small blocks. I have heard that Bullet Cams makes a better copy of this cam than Lunati does (this is an old Ultradyne cam that both companies now make), but I don't know if that's true or not.

Of course you could just get a cam from Harold's current line up too.

Agree. No bigger. Not enough compression.

knowing your spring pressures is a major concern.

If you find they are adequate, Lunati 60103, 60104 if you had just a little more compression & stall.

I know spring pressure plays a major roll in this, but, I wouldn't mind taking a little more "time" to upgrade valve springs if it came down to it................then again, if I'm able to cough up a little more money, I can always just get a better set of heads while I'm at it! :D As for stall converter, that's no problem, I've been wanting to step up to a 3k stall anyway :D

Mmmmmm....solid cam!!! I wouldn't mind slapping one in :D Heck, I'm used to constantly adjusting my rocker arms, so that shouldn't be a problem LoL :D Price wise, how much more (or less) would a solid cam set up be, compared to a normal hydraulic cam?
