I don't know anything about it. It's behind a 406/TH350 and the owner seems to like it. He doesn't drive it much, just cruises around town a bit.

motown/malibu,

The "Performance" forum isn't the only forum in Team Chevelle. There is also a "Transmission" forum, with quite a few professionals, and I bet more than few people running a GV unit that might never venture into the Performance forum. They could help answer your questions, too.

My uncles got one in his pro-street pickup. He's got a radical 406 with a turbo 400. Rear gears are 5.14's with 31" tires. He absolutely loves it! He's kind of an old school hardcore guy I guess you could say, seeing as most of us are looking at overdrives with 4.10's or steeper.

I run a TH400 and a GV unit in my 66 behind my 489. I like it. I have yet to put that many miles on it but it handles the power and daily driving well. I went through three 700R4s and one rebuild on the TH400 before I got the guts and money up to buy the GV unit. I run 3.55 gears and a 2500 stall, with 28 or so tall rear tires.

My wagon has a 408 and has a 700R4 from Pheonix Transmission Products http://www.phoenixtrans.com/html/gmtrans.html
I hope not to have the past troubles with this combo. It has 3.73 gears.

I have a gear vendors and I like it, although it is the mod I least appreciate spending the $$ on. I don't do alot of highway driving, even moreso now with my gallons per mile fuel consumption. My biggest tiff with the unit is (aside from the tight fit and the hole in my pristine underside of the car to make for clearance to get the correct pinion angle) is the 22% overdrive. I'd have much liked better, 28,32, something a little more overdriveish.
I think they ship now with a 28%? Not sure...

It does do what it says it does (despite that ugly computer thing!), and its built like they intended to drop it from C-130's after filling it with TNT..

A bud of mine has one behind a blown 355 with TH400 in a '39 Chevy. Seems he paid around $2k for it. He has lots of highway miles on it, trouble free.

MadMarv - gotta love that Gear vendor spec description...."built like they intended to drop it from C-130's after filling it with TNT.." OORAH! I agree that a .70 overdrive would be more highway oriented for our cars, but the TH400 GV strength combination sounds pretty comforting. Checked out your website - great looking Chevelle too! By the way, do you have any digital pics of what you had to do to the tunnel to get the Gear Vendor to fit? Did you use the template? Did you use their modified crossmember? THANKS!
