: A Grad Student @ LSU Needs Your Expertise......
zw9880 Nov 19th, 04, 2:03 AM This post is going to sound a bit "off the wall" compared to what seems to be typical board discussions, but please bare with me. I am desperate over here.
But first, let be give you a brief synopsis....
I am an MBA student down in Louisiana who is neck deep right now in statistics material for an upcoming statistical analysis presentation.
This project calls for me to find data such as weight, # of cyl., year, make, horsepower, etc. from over 300 types of cars and then perform an obscene amount of statistical analyses on what I find. Then I must break down the results of all the testing to hopefully find various correlations
with respect to the car's mpg/fuel efficiency.
I have found and adjusted for almost all the anomolies and missing data, with the exception of a few. Here is where you guys come in...
I have spent hours scouring the web but to no avail. I am wondering if anyone has any one of these or knows where I can find the horsepower of the following vehicles:
1. 1971 6-cyl Chevelle Malibu
2. 1976 6-cyl Dodge Aspen SE
3. 1981 4-cyl Renault 18i
4. 1980 4-cyl Renault Lecar Deluxe
5. 1982 4-cyl AMC Concord DL
I posted here for help because in searching all over the web, this site kept popping up as the best.
I will appreciate whatever info. ya'll have.
Thanks,
Zac

bigblockelky Nov 19th, 04, 2:09 AM zac, heres a good renault site that will probably have your renault answers, i dotn know exact power on the 6 cyl cgevelle so ill let someone else answer that.. sounds liek you got your work cut out for you.. have fun man site -----> http://www.network54.com/Forum/152584

wyatt Nov 19th, 04, 2:19 AM Welcome. What kind of analysis are you running? ANOVA, multiple regression, structural equation modeling? Just curious. Hey at least you're running some fun stats. Wish I "had" to run that kind of analysis! As you probably know, there are far more boring subjects you could be researching. Of course, you may not even like classic cars.
Donnie1 Nov 19th, 04, 2:32 AM 1. 1971 6-cyl Chevelle Malibu
250 L-6/ 1-bbl.carb/ comp.ratio 8.50:1/ 145HP @4200 RPM.

zw9880 Nov 19th, 04, 3:45 AM I meant to add, to your reply Wyatt, d) all of the above, plus some F-tests, t-tests, correlation coefficients, and your probably thinkin the same thing in your head "Thank God for Excel!"
The final product will eventually be where the professor will give me the dependent variables i.e. displacement, hp, weight, etc. of 98 unknown cars; where I will then have to calculate a point estimation of what I believe the make, model, and year are for each one.
And yes, you are right, it could be alot worse.
Oh, and I absolutely love classic cars, I have been teaching myself auto mechanics since I was 15 and to one day rebuild a classic in my own garage is definately a motive to keep studying.
wyatt Nov 19th, 04, 3:56 AM Yes, Excel is a life saver. Have you used SPSS? It's really where it's at. I'm graduating in June from a masters at Cal State as well. They just love to torture us with stats.
Good luck with your analysis. There's a reason this site kept popping up-these guys know more about these cars than anyone on the net. Hopefully someone will chime in with some of the data you need. Have fun with it!
Schurkey Nov 19th, 04, 10:28 AM The fuel economy of Renaults is infinite: None of them run anymore.
Sorry I couldn't help more...
Cam Nov 19th, 04, 11:27 AM Zac, I will attempt to answer or at least illuminate your horsepower questions using original literature:
1) 71 Chevelle with 250 six: 145 gross / 110 net
2) 76 Aspen with 225 1-bbl six: 100 net
3) 81 Renault 18I: not given, but the car has a 1647 cc displacement an a single Weber 32 carb (maybe the ‘I’ version was fuel injected)
4) 80 LeCar (Renault 5 technically): not given, but was 1289 cc displacement (enlarged to 1397 cc for 1981)
5) 82 AMC Concord / Spirit/ Eagle: I don’t have the specs handy, but they used a VW / Audi 2.0 liter sohc 4
I’m sure I have the reference material somewhere but it likely means digging through 15 years worth of crawl space storage. May I suggest checking out old Road & Track, Mechanics Illustrated, or similar publications? In the meantime if I do find my reference stuff in a timely manner I will certainly keep you posted.
zw9880 Nov 19th, 04, 11:56 AM Guys,
I appreciate all the help. when I was first directed to these boards, I only needed to read a few discussions and I knew you guys wouldn't have a problem.

GRN69CHV Nov 19th, 04, 2:19 PM Yes siree,
Won't hardly find any discussions on this here site talking about how "my Porsche is a little slow out of the hole, and uncomfortable to drive, but it handles the turns real well and makes people forget that I am an idiot for having committed to make these insane lease payments for the next 4 years." Nope- just good old fashioned get your hands dirty, suck up some dinosaur sauce fumes, tire shredding HORSEPOWER here!
