What are you guys running for shooters / pump cams?

What about your timing curves?

Thanks!

Lets see, I'm running 38 degrees total timing, all in my 3000 rpm. I've got the black bushing in the MSD distributor which I believe is 20 degrees mechanical, so that should be around 18 degrees initial.

On the carb, it's an 850 Holley (8162 list) with 40 front squiter with a 35 rear. I really need to take some time and try some different squirter combinations. Next time I intend to try 40/40 and buy some .042 & .045's to test as well.

Pump cams are stock which I believe is a red/pink for the front 30cc pump and brown for the rear 50cc pump...both in the #1 hole.

Car leaves the line off a footbrake launch of 1800-2000 rpm.

I use a 30 cc pump in front, 50 cc pump in rear with a 51 squirter in the rear and a 38 on the front. Pink Pump cam in rear, white in the front. out of the box Holley 850 DP model 4781 with the choke tower still on.

Timing curve has 3 settings:

Soft (2 light springs) - 16 initial all in at 3500 - total = 38
Medium (1 spring on)- 20 initial all in at 2500 - total = 38
Kill (No advance weight springs)- 24 initial all in at 1500 - total = 38

I am running at medium right now because it gives the best consistency.

1200 RPM Launch, I turn up the idle to be 1200 in Drive when I get to the track.

Thanks guys! I am going to go out and get a few diff. sized shooters to experiment with. I currently have 31`s front & rear on my stock HP950.

What are your thoughts on sticking on a dual plane to replace the Vic jr? Worth the time & $$$? If so, which one? Oval or Rectangular?

Todd....Tried to email you and it bounced back. Do you have a new addy? Let me know.

I think each combination will respond differently to manifold choices, so testing is the only real way to know which is truly quicker on the track.

Hmmm...e-mail has not changed in quite a while. It's geislert@qis.net ...maybe try again.

The rule of thumb from the old school racers was tune the squirters with 60 times. My car use to seem lazy out of the hole. I thought it was too much gas with the 2 600dp's on it. After I got my wide band 02, it showed me that I was spiking almost to 20-1 on launch, then down to 10-1 for almost a full second. My squirters were 4 28's. I kept going up and up. I now have 4 37's in and the car works like a monster out of the hole. On launch now the fuel curve goes 14-1, down a little to 11.5 and then steadies at about 12.5. I think I still have a little more work to do. The larger squirter also shaved about .6 sec off the spike/rich time after launch. I am going for a totally flat curve on launch. I never would have figured it was lean with 2 DP's but it was. Stock white cams. Total of 42deg in by 3000 rpm. Monte
