well i just ripped out the original interior of my 71 since it was all moldy and i want a black interior anyway. What i was wondering was under allot of the trim pieces there was allot of surface rust i mean not to bad no rotting or anything.what i was wondering is can i just spray it down with rustoleum or some other rust stopper and cover it up or do i have to strip/sand it down then paint it so that it wont continue to rust. none of it will show so esthetics aren't a huge deal i just want something that is cheap and works

thanks for all the help in advance.

finally having the money for parts is awsome.

I would go to Eastwood's website and check out their Rust Encapsulator. If you're not already familiar with their products, they have a number of specialty coatings and finishes intended for specific purposes. You might find just what you're looking for. Good to hear that your project is well under way!

Tom is right...I think a good rust neutralizer product..along with a good cleaning...would be the way to start...after that the sky is the limit...you could do something simple like just poop can it with rustoleum or some type of primer...or you could go crazy on it and have it painted or whatever...be aware of overspray and the such no matter what you do...

Watch out. I started fixing a little rust in the rear floorboard and ended up here (http://www.small-block-chevy.com/empty1.JPG) Not because anything was wrong other than the two small lines of rust in the floor, but because you fix one part and it makes another look like dog doo-doo. So you remove another to clean it, and then another and another and the next thing you know your 4 bolts from taking the body off the frame! It's a horrible affliction that can only be cured with a stiff wire brush, bead blasting, maybe some POOR15, a big balance on your credit card to order new / replacement parts... But the end result is your've saved another classic from a cancerous fate.

I have a similar bucket blaster. It does work but it is very slow. I wouldn't recommend it for more than some small pieces like wheels, a-arms etc.I plan on just some wire brushing and Eastwoods encapsulator on my interior.

That sure is the truth! I bought my 67 thinking I'll just fix this and that. Not that much to do. A little floor patching here and there, maybe patch the quarters. Yeah Right!! I wish it were that easy. I'm actually glad I don't have the room to take the body off of the frame. I really need to set a limit/draw the line somewhere. I sometimes wonder if the condition my car is in if I'm better off selling it for what I can get for it and starting over with something more desirable.

After I cut out the one section of floor, I started thinking what I should do to the frame now. It's never ending (at least in your head, if not your wallet)

I feel your pain. I started out stripping my car for a repaint. Still haven't gotten to the exterior paint yet!!!!
