Hey Guys. I'm new here.. Previously and F-body guy, but I am getting a '65 Chevelle Malibu(4dr) soon and have a few questions..

First, it still has the factory, 4-wheel manual drum brakes..
I would like to upgrade these, but cant go crazy right now.. I am fine keeping them manual, but would like to swap the drums over to discs..

Besides the later model year disc spindles, new rotors, calipers, pads and bearings; will I need to change the master cylinder and/or the prop valve?

Also, the steering system is the factory manual steering. I would like to upgrade this over to power steering..

I can get a P/S pump and brackets and gearbox from a boneyard.. But I was wondering if I could use an f-body gearbox, and what pitman arm will i need? If I use an f-body box, will I need the pitman arm from that same box, or do I use mine?
Same if I get a p/s gearbox off another A-body.. Do I use the pitman from the new P/S box, or use my manual box's pitman arm..??

Thanks alot. Appreciate any help.

Joe

You are right about all the brake stuff you need, but you will need a master cylinder setup for disk/drum and manual. You will need a prop valve that is setup for disk/drum, the manual part doesnt matter.

For the steering. I am not sure you can use an f-body gearbox. I know if using a power gearbox from an A-body, you will also need that pitman arm as the manual box splines are not the same as the power box.

You might not need spindles depending on the kit you get. I am running drum spindles with my 11" manual Baer front disc's.
