We are completing painting my 1966 Chevelle convertible marina blue, and there are a couple of questions I hope you guys would answer:
1) Should the rear body panel (between the tail lights) be painted black or body color?
2) Should the hood latch assembly be painted black left unpainted?
3) Should the head light buckets be painted black or left unpainted?
Thanks for the help.

Well...

If you are looking for 100% originality,

1) there is some debate over when and where (what assembly plants, or dealer) the "black" rear cove paint started...

2) the hood latch should be grey Phosphate coated (I think)... Most people do semi-gloss black...

3) I think the headlight buckets should be semi-gloss black, as is the radiator support and inner fenders, etc...

100% originality, I'd head over tothe "Restoration" forum (where originality comes first, or at least its supposed to )

If it is not a SS the panel should be the body color. If it is an SS depending on when it was assembled the panel would be the same as the body color or painted black. The color was changed during the year run so both are correct for the SS depending on date of assembly. I think Tony is correct with his info. Jb

Thanks for the info; my car is an SS and it was assembled in May of 1966 in Kansas City.
Thanks,
