can anyone tell me if the front upper controls arms on a 70-72 chevelle are different if you had disc or drum brakes? i know the spindles are different.

No difference in upper (or lower) a-arms on either brake setup.

The only difference is the height of the big bolt boss on the spindle. Otherwise the spindles are the same too. The drum brake spindles can be machined down and used.
