I'm trying to pick out a new cam for my big block. Do you guys think Desktop Dyno is the best way? Or is it just better to call Comp and let them pick it out for me?

If you are absoluty sure of the data you are plugging into DD, it can be an indicator or guide to play with. I would do both though. Compare your findings in DD with what Comp has to say.

Bob, open a cam catalog to the bbc page and throw a dart. ;) OR you can define use ( type) rpm range ( .050 durations ), intensity ( lobe intensity and lift), vaccum requirements ( overlap) and start to narrow your choices to a range of cams. DD2000 is only a tool, not an omnipotent engine guru. I've always found it best to call the techs with some background research done. They tend to "play to your level" if you know what I mean.
