: Slip Yoke Radial Play (Muncie)

I have been trying to resolve a driveline vibration problem and in doing so found that there is a fair amount of radial play if I push/pull on the driveshaft near the slip yoke u-joint. The u-joint is fine and all of the play is the slip yoke going into the trans. If I unbolt the driveshaft from the pinion and push the slip yoke all the way into the trans the amount of play is reduced perhaps by half.

The trans is a M-20 that I recently rebuilt. At the time of the rebuild I installed a new tailshaft bushing (from a reputable source) and also a new slip yoke on the driveshaft. I also took a look at a friends 69 442 w/muncie and the radial play was about half of mine. The 442 yoke was installed deeper into the trans, so this may have affected things.

What is the typical amount of play? What should the slip yoke diameter be?

sounds like it should be inserted a bit farther on the trans-tailshaft.......
