Has anybody ever tried a mech fuel injectoin setup on the street? I have a Hilborn stack fuel injection setup for BBC square port, and I have talked to Hilborn reps on the phone who swear this thing can live on the street. What do you guys think? I have been around mechanical fuel injection literally all my life, so it won't be anything new, just trying to decide before I buy anything for this.

I just answered this in the engine section but here it is again,,, :(

Yes it can be done but you will hate it after the new wears off ;)
Why not call Don & see if it can be retrofitted to his EFI?
It looks like the real deal but is actually "streetable" :D

Definately convert the manifold over to EFI. Most of the Mechanical FI setups out there (with the exception of OEM stuff, like the Rochester units on old 'Vettes) are typically "high-strung" and only work good at upper RPMs, and are usually miserable at around town and cruising speeds.

Several shops can do it; Rob at Force EFI (http://www.force-efi.com/stacks.htm) is one of them. I've bought an ECU and some other stuff from Rob, very nice and knowledgeable guy.

Holy bat $h!t that's expensive! I think I might have to pass on that deal. It would be nice, though. I have looked into converting it over to ACCEL/DFI or FAST, and it will be about half of that. EFI is pretty new to me, and I haven't really messed with it yet. What I had intended to do with the MFI setup was to install an electric pump at the rear of the car as a supply pump. That would be plumbed into a tank near the front of the car, probably on the core support. This tank would feed the belt-driven pump that is run off of the crank pulley, and then to the nozzles. I already have most of the poppets, shut off, and some of the other toys that will work from the digger. I have to change the belt-driven pump and nozzles, because this system was originally designed to be used with methanol.

Does anybody have any idea what I could use for air filters with something like this? I need to get shorter ram tubes, as I have no intention ic cutting a hole in my hood. We always used a mesh screen inside of the scoop. I wonder if individual screens could be epoxied inside of the tubes. Could be cool.

Here are 3 links for info on Do It Yourself EFI conversion parts, this guy sells on Ebay but there is some good reading in his listings for other parts, links and ECU's. check out the 12 cyl Lamborgini and small block intake he converted.

Something like this cuold work really well. I'm going to e-mail this guy and talk to him about his conversions. I want to perform as mush of it myselk as I can, but some of the tuning is beyond me at this point. Thank you very much for the links.
