: valve job,,,just curious
Bob West Jan 13th, 05, 10:15 PM What is a 3 angle valve job worth over a regular valve job as far as flow goes? Just curious,as the 049's on the old motor just had a single angle valve job with Milodon stainless valves. They are getting a 3 angle valve job this time.
Schurkey Jan 14th, 05, 4:02 AM A three-angle valve (seat) job IS a regular valve job. It just got "good press" decades ago, and the term has outlived it's usefullness.
You have the seat angle, and a top and bottom cut to locate the seat angle for both position and width.
Anyone who is doing LESS than three seat angles is either lying or totally, hopelessly, incompetent.
Three angles on the valve itself is not a conventional deal. There is some debate about how effective the extra angles are.
mr 4 speed Jan 14th, 05, 6:32 AM I've heard of 2 angle valve jobs
69-CHVL Jan 14th, 05, 7:19 AM I've heard of 5...
Bob West Jan 14th, 05, 7:55 AM I may have mis spoke, he said it was just a plain old valve job, nothing special, said now they will have a good 3 angle valve job. I guess I should have rephrased it,,,how much flow/hp in a valve job alone, relating to how the valves are ground.

Three angles on the valve itself is not a conventional deal. There is some debate about how effective the extra angles are. the difference is that some shops consider a regular valve job to be cleaning up the seat angle ONLY, while a competition valve job, or quality 3 angle valve job is cleaning up all 3 angles, cutting the seat to just shy the width of the valve, and shortening up the seat to the width that will best suite the needs of the user.
there are different grades of competition valve jobs, ranging from a quality 3 angle job, or the addition of a back cut on the valve, and in some cases more angles on the seat.
