A buddy of mine just picked up a shortblock for a song for his 64 chevelle.

Its a 350 .030" over(355)
Pistons are Cast rebuilder flat tops with 4 valve reliefs
reconditioned and resized rods w/ arp bolts
4 bolt main
All fresh, 0 miles
Has a cam of unknown specs, he wants to recam it
He plans to get heads like mine, the Performer RPM edelbrocks, straight plug, 64cc chambers
Transmission is a TH-350, Rearend is a 3.36

We have a couple of questions for you guys.

1. About what compression is he looking at with those pistons and a 64cc head? The block isn't zero decked but the surface has been cleaned up.

2. Given those pistons, is there a thinner head gasket thats streetable and works ok with the aluminum heads?(raise the compression a bit?)

3. Also looking for a cam recommendation. A solid cam is a possibility, as well as a Hydro. No budget for a roller. He kinda wants a tighter LSA like a 108 or so.

Forgot to mention, car will be used probably 75% street 25% strip... and 4.10's are probably in the future within the next year or so.

Thanks in advance!

About the best you can do with those pistons which if rebuilders are destroked to 1.540 is the 1094 FelPro which is .018.
Still not real good but better than a .040 one.
Depending on how much the block has been "cleaned up" & what was done to the rods when resizing you are going to find the pistons probably .04 in the hole or so,, possibly
more :(
Should net you about 9.7 in compression with a lot of "assumptions" :D
Isky 270 or 274 or equivalent of your choice would work pretty fair.
