I had heard that all Kansas City built cars had Malibu door panels instead of SS. Urban legend or correct?

I have seen only one LS6 outside of a car show or whatever...that car is an Arlington car...the interior kit for it is in my shop right now...and it came with Malibu door panels from the factory...

i think only a very few had malibu panels due to strike?

Actually, the opposite, most LS6 cars had Malibu door panel emblems from the data I have seen and collected.

I think it was primarily Kansas City and Atlanta, but does not rule out other plants slipping them out.

The Chevelle here was an LS5 bult in Van Nuys. It always had the Malibu door panels. :yes:

A lot of '70 SSs had the Malibu door panel badge, this is accepted as correct as so many are that way. It didn't matter what 454 it had.

Shortage or strike or whatever. I never really understood why Chevy let thier top of the line SS package go out the door with Malibu on the door panels. I believe all the 396 cars did get SS on the door panels.

the legend that I've heard is that they just plain ran out of ss door panels and it was awhile before they could get the stock replenished due to the strike I guess...

I had a 100% original 1 owner (I was 2nd) LS-5 Kansas City car. Malibu emblems on the door panels.

I don't believe they ran out of emblems because you see the correct SS emblems on the 396's.

I believe what it was, was that the 396 had the SS emblem listed on a certain box on the Buildsheet.

If not specified, they would automatically place the malibu Emblems.

The new 454 cars however did not specify in the box on the buildsheet, so they used the malibu.

Some plants caught the error quicker than others and included the optional SS emblems when the Z15 454 option was specified.

Kansas and Atlanta missed the most. Baltimore missed the most after that, and most of the other plants caught the error early on, unclear when and where caught it when.

Now that makes a lot more sense...
