I have a stock 8" pan, and a stock pump w/ high pressure spring. I put the old pickup on the pump just to check clearance. It wont even come down all the way, if it were about an inch shorter it would. Sealed Power Part Number 224-1152 is a big block pickup, the screen is a bigger one with the screen mostly closed, it has that little window, if that makes sence. But this one is about an inch shorter than the one I pulled off so I think it will fit.

Also, are these weldable steel with a MIG? They arent galvanised or anything are they?

Phil,

While the engine is upside down, place some modeling clay on the area of the pickup that is solid, not the screen. Then place the oil pan on to the block to check the clearance. The clearance between the pickkup and the bottom of the pan. Then remove the oil pan, the clay should be compressed to 3/8 to 1/2 inch. Some like to have it down to 1/4 inch, but not me. Once you get it set, weld the pickuptube, but have the spring removed when you do the welding. After it has cooled, replace the spring. Don't hit the tube too long with the welder, you don't want to burn through the pickup tube. Heck, this reminds me of the first time I put together a 283.
Oh, and yes, the type you have can be welded.

Good luck,
Fred.
