I noticed that right away as well. 100% completely classless people. They knew it was the photo for the cover then they go and do something like that, what losers:sad: Myself and Andy are just ahead and right of the people doing that, I saw them do it for one photo, but then when Chuck said this is the picture, I guess they did it again.

Maybe they just lost their sense of humor after sitting in a hot ass tent for 6 hours. Still, totally classless for an ACES member to do that especially for a cover shot of a magazine that every ACE member is going to receive.

Too late after the magazine has been printed obviously.
Sometimes things get missed/overlooked and slip through the cracks.

One time our whole club proof read a show flier and didn't notice any mistakes until AFTER we had 1000 printed and mailed out a couple of hundred of them.

In this day and time, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many people think it's "cute" to demonstrate how crude they can be. There was a time when this kind of beahvior would usually come around and bite said people in the rear--------------------but today, much of our society has come to accept such behavior, or be more tolerant.
I agree with an above comment, I think they should be identified, singled out, admonished and publically humiliated.
Also, I'll volunteer the use of my brick. A couple of broken fingers might break them of the habit.

Yea...like posting the picture of what you are so pissed off about? You could have easily just explained that there was a group of people that were "flipping the bird" on the cover of the new Chevelle World and you didn't agree with it...but you chose to post it instead.

How does that make you any different than the person who decided to make it the cover shot?

We all know that kids see those magazines...but we also know that kids are on this site also...

Maybe you should reconsider and remove the picture? It would probably be best...

I'll confess.... When I saw it, I kind of chuckled......

Think about it, that's exactly what the "Smoking in the bathroom" kind of guys in Highschool acted like who liked Chevelles in the first place.

The "cigarette hanging out of your mouth", "tough guy" "gear heads"

I bet every one of you pointing fingers that our "Bible Belt Children" are in physcological Danger over this were the same way........

I know I was back in the day. "tough guy", "smoking in the bathroom," "leather Jacket wearing", "finger flipping", " "Chevelle loving", "gear head."

Some people never grow up......

I hope I don't either.

BTW (By the way...in case you might think it's some secret swear word) I do get it...more than you will ever know...or hope to know.

I know what's important in life...and arguing about some "guys" flipping someone off isn't it. Nor is it pointing out someones supposed spelling errors...lord knows there are enough of those on here at any given moment.

What I find ironic is that you defend Dean...when in fact in this post he did EXACTLY what you guys are all arguing about!

I blame the editor and cameraman. See, usually when something like this happens you would ask those folks to leave. If you did not catch it, you would not publish the picture when you saw it.

So if anything its a combo - classless people and clueless cameramen and editors. Double whammy there. I have taken pictures with "odd" things in the background, im sure we all have. Thing is - I didnt show them to everyone, I didnt print up a bunch of copies and send it out to everyone.

this is like the episode on Seinfeld where Elaine sent out the Christmas cards with her picture on it and her was nipple exposed. Two dumb tings occurred there - she didnt pay attention that her nipple was exposed and then she actually missed the editing and sent it out.

I realize one is an accident and one is on purpose but this is the VERY reason editing exists. Maybe the guy flipping the bird IS the editor. Maybe he's an import guy on a terrorist mission to disrupt Chevelle life.

If the editor or cameraman would of done their jobs it would of never happened (in the sense that if its not seen or heard it never occurred)

Still not cool of the folks that did it but people are weird - hence the need for editing.

Lastly - you guys are gonna feel bad if you find out that these guys simply lost their index finger in a resto accident and they had no other way to say "We're number 1" - Im gonna single you out and publicly admonish you for picking on the disabled...;)

ACES1
Sep 27th, 07, 7:27 PM
Wow! This thread was brought to my attention by an ACES Member who sent me a link, and prefaced his email with "I think these guys need to get a life." After reading all three pages, I'm somewhat inclined to agree.

Just so we know who's responsible for the photographic faux pas, I'll claim full responsibility. You see, I'm both the shooter and the editor. And, I'll also admit to being human and occassionally guilty of oversight. With that out of the way, let's talk about what seems to have several of y'all's panties in a wad.

Ya know, I shot the cover shot, and when I did, my concerns were more about getting the shot properly exposed, having the subject material in focus, and also composed in a format that would fit the cover. The least of my concerns were whether or not grown adults would know how to conduct themselves in public. I just assumed they would. Evidently, I overestimated the ability of grown adults to act appropriately.

As for the editing, I again defer to the notion that I gave more credit to adults than they obviously deserved. The image/subject matter that we were going after (the incredible "post" cars that were our showcase Chevelle for the event) were in focus, oriented to fit our vertical format, and the folks in the background all appeared happy to be in the shot. It never occured to me to check exactly which fingers they were waving in the air.

So, what's done is done. I can't take it back, and all I can do is appologize to anyone who has taken offense to my oversight. For that I am profoundly sorry.

Since being made aware of this thread, I, too, have been very curious as to the identity of the culprits. I pulled up the original image (shot @ 12.1mpx), but even after blowing up the offending part of it, I was still unable to make an accurate ID. That is good news for the perpetrators, although I WAS able to get a good idea of who they are. But since I am not 100% certain, I'm gonna let that sleeping dog lie. For now. I will have a face-to-face eventually with who I feel they guys are, and unless they are excellent liars, I should have an even better idea (maybe even confirmation) when my queries are answered.

In defense of the shot, I don't think the "finger pointing" was brought about because they were mad about sitting for six hours in the heat. The shot was taken waaay before the auction, and considerable time had elapsed after the Saturday morning awards ceremony. And,if I recall, we were ALL subjected to the effects of the same heat. Hey, it's June in Nashville...

Also, when I took the shot I was perched on a 12-foot ladder, focusing, composing, and exposing the shot, and the folks in the background were quite aways off from the main focal point of the shot. The cars were the true image I was trying to capture, and the folks in the background are always invited to participate in the cover shot. Too bad even that tradition may be in jeopardy now, since a few can screw it up for the rest of us. I am a little disappointed that the "bird flipping" was actually witnessed, but nobody called the culprits on it, nor did anybody come up to me after the shot to make me aware so that I would give the shot a bit more scrutiny once I got them up on the screen. I would have been really thankful if either had occurred.

Regardless, the responsibility for the image and editing are on my shoulders. However, I've called several ACES Members to ask them if they noticed anything "different" about the cover, and without exception, none saw the offending activity until I brought it to their attention. Even then, most asked me "Are you sure?" I tend to agree. Most people will only give the cover a very perfunctory look, then move on to the contents inside.

Speaking of which, did anybody get to the inside coverage of Chevell-abration (the correct, copyrighted version of the spelling for the event) yet, or have we not been able to tear ourselves away from this very unfortunate situation long enough to relive the GOOD times of the event?

Finally, is it my imagination, or are some folks here just getting pissy for some reason or another? I mean, it HAS been a long, hot summer. But my memories of it are all good. I got to see a lot of really cool Chevelles, saw a lot of old friends, made quite a few new ones, and just had a great time traveling to all the events! So, to paraphrase an old saw... "Even a 'bad' day lookin' at Chevelles and hangin' out with fellow Chevellers is better than the best day at work!" Y'all ease up a bit on each other!

As for me, I've gotta move on. I'm workin' on another issue that we hope to have on press next week, and I guarantee y'all, if there's anybody waving on that cover, it'll be with ALL their fingers!

I'm fairly certain, Chuck, (who is the camera guy and editor) has enough on his plate already without having to babysit a bunch of immature adults. I know if I were taking the picture I wouldn't think I would have to look for such immature behaviour. Besides the fact that Chuck was at least 200 feet back from those guys when he was taking the picture. In the effort to get the best picture for the cover of his magazine, I guess he must have overlooked looking for a couple idiots flipping him off.

As for those that say it is just a minor thing and don't sweat it, well I would agree with that on most other occasions. For starters, people outside of ACES do see these magazines, what does that say to people checking it for the first time. Second, it's not about it being a harmless flipping of the bird, it's about disrespecting Chuck and every other ACES member by doing something so childish. If it were something that we should all feel is acceptable, why is it that only two out of the hundred or so on the cover are doing it? If it should be acceptable, we all would have done it. It is not acceptable.

edit: I guess Chuck got here first and said it much better than I could.

I looked at the cover when it came last week and all I saw was a bunch of car people, with my favorite cars in the foreground. After this was discussed, I looked closer, and I can still see basically nothing. All you can see is a blurry hand or two, turned around. Certainly nothing to get upset about. I can't believe this would offend any kids who might see it. Kids have been flipping the bird since the beginning of time . It's something all kids have seen a million times. Welcome to the real world.

Dean, you are the moderator....and I am the only one who was 'angry' that you posted the picture. So I am in the minority. Isn't the first time and won't be the last.

So, If I took a picture of my friends standing next to my car...flipping everyone off and posted it on this board, you wouldn't have a problem with it?

So which is it? It's okay to take a picture of a bunch of people flipping everyone off and post it here..or it isn't?

The point I was making is that people get riled up about something without thinking. If people were offended that the picture was on the cover of Chevelle World...

then why the need to selectively crop the picture to make the focus of the picture and post it here...not the whole picture?

Have a great weekend. I will be at the dragstrip this weekend having fun. Who knows...maybe I can get a couple of cool shots, too! :)

Guys - I feel bad that I even started this post. For the record, I wasn't offended, my panties are not in a bind, and my kids would have never found 'Waldo' in the picture. I don't blame Chuck - he doesn't publish a fashion magazine with 20 staffers critiquing and air brushing 600 different photos of some model for the cover. I just thought it was immature thing for two a-dolts to do.... I certainly didn't want to start any riots here. Shall we move on?

Bruce, I already told you once that you were right and that I shouldn't have posted the picture so,... again I agree and apologize.
Don't know what else I can say to you sir.

I guess I was thinking a picture would show what the original poster was talking about and never really thought it out well enough before posting :o

Personally I don't think the picture is a big deal but still, I agree, it shouldn't have been posted here.

Thing is the people are so far back in the picture on the cover that only someone that is very bored would have studied it enough to even notice, let alone being bored enough to bring it to light here.
When I got mine, I looked at the cover and saw a group of happy people having a good time and some very nice Chevelles..that's all.

Now. I think this thread has gone on long enough.
