: rear drag shocks...
Bob West Feb 7th, 05, 9:17 PM Ken,Todd,Tom,Harold or anyone else, what rear shocks are you running? I talked to Larry Hodge when I ordered the radial slicks and he was saying even the Competition Engineering adjustables are better than the Gabriel pro ryder gas shocks I have on the car now, looking for suggestions, thanks. I'll need all the help I can to get it to hook.
mc71454 Feb 7th, 05, 9:56 PM Bob,
ran the CE shocks...waste of time....went back to the KYB Gas. But When I decided to race for points and needed more predictable consistency I went with the QA1's to mate with the adjustability of the Dick Miller kit I installed. I do find myself turning a few "clicks" either way on one or both shocks depending on track conditions.
I was able to make the car leave straighter (with a spotter in the stands feeding me info) by adjusting the rear shocks. 60 ft's dropped 2-3 1000th's after adjusting that one day. Instead of twisting, my car leaves almost pefectly level.
blazerbob Feb 7th, 05, 9:59 PM I run Chris Alstons Vari-Shocks, uh hum! I have just installed Qal's adjustable race shocks on front and would suggest something of this quality for your rears! Goodluck!
kjett Feb 7th, 05, 11:09 PM Bob, I'm running QA1 StarStockers on the rear. I've been pretty happy with these shocks, but for a little extra money I would prolly look at a double adjustable shock by QA1, AFCO or Strange.
BLK64SS Feb 7th, 05, 11:31 PM Strange Engineering Double Adjustables here
67Super Sport Feb 8th, 05, 11:33 AM Koni SPA1 here. Don't use a CE 3-way adjustable on the rear. I broke 2 before I learned my lesson.
MeanKen Feb 8th, 05, 11:46 AM I had the same experience as mc71454 with QA1 single adjustable. Helped my 60 ft go from 1.70 to 1.54.
If you haven't purchased anything yet, I would do the double adjustable. Every chassis builder/tuner I have talked to says they are much better than single adjustable, and like Ken said, they don't cost that much more.
chevy_69_chevelle Feb 8th, 05, 12:38 PM I too am running the KoniSPA1 ..front and rear
BLK64SS Feb 8th, 05, 1:16 PM I started thinking about how well a Strange Eng. or other " Drag Racing " shock would hold up under street use. Does anyone have any experience with this ?
I hate to see someone use this info and spend 600 $ for 2 shocks only to have them wear out in a couple of months .....
MeanKen Feb 9th, 05, 11:17 AM How much are you going to drive it on the street? When you choose what shock you are going to buy, call their tech support. They should tell you how they will hold up. And another thing to think about, most adjustable shocks are rebuildable, so long term it may be more affordable.
