hey guys im almost done sanding the car with 80-120 grit paper and spraying it with rattle can primer. i know the surfaces arent all perfect, but this is just a temporary paint job im doing to protect the car. after im done with the primer, im thinking of getting some Dupli-Color Paint Shop Finish Systems paint and clear coat. would this work well with the prep i have done? how many quarts would i need to cover the entire car?

80-120 grit isnt prep.... and stpray cans suck. 80 and 120 leave DEEP scratches, nothing coming from a spray can will fill them. Paint prep is usually around 320-600 wet depending on what your trying to do.

well for now the 120 will have to do. i will get a professional paint job later on. im home for a short amount of time so i need to get this car on the road. im not even close to a paint pro, but im aiming for a 20 footer here. just for now. if i use that duplicolor system, will it look decent? and how many quarts of that duplicolor stuff would i need to cover the entire car?

Paint it white...that is the only way you will end up with a 20 footer. When I purchased my chevelle the seller went on and on about the $3500 dollar paint job (blah, blah) the car had. I easily flaked off the paint in several spots uncovering the original paint. I could still see sanding scratches but the white paint sure does hide a lot.
