At 65-70 mph I feel the front end bouncy/shaking. Not overly excessive but enough to shake the steering wheel. The tires are balanced and in good shape.
Is this a case of bad bushings?

Most of the time shaking is from the tires if they are old tires the steel belts inside can break and the tire will egg and sometimes it will be unoticed with just looking. My daughter hit a storm drain and it broke the belts and it would shake only at high speeds. Some wheel and tires dont bead perfectally in circumfrance and would give you the bounce your talking about.Wheel bearings you would hear!bad bushings you would feel even at lower speeds.Try doing sharp turns at low speed and listen for clunking sounds!Push up and down on your bumper and if the front of your car bounces more than twice your shocks are weak, the more your car keeps bouncing the worse off your shocks are.Jack yor front up and shake the wheels and turn the wheels, grab tie rods and have a friend help to see if anything is loose. If all of this is done and you cant find anything its your wheels and tires GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks for the reply, and the input.
I've had 2 sets of wheels and tires on the E.C. and it seems to do the same thing (as far as the vibration/shakiness). I'll get underneath and check out any loose stuff. But thanks for the tip on the low speed sharp turns for the bushing check.

I'm not good at the proper terms of what I am about to describe. But I'll try.
Front sway bar: The bushings at the end are toast, and I can literally turn the entire rod by hand.
Tie rods: Or the adjustment where alignments are done with zerks, I can rotate maybe a half inch to an inch.
I assume there is not suppose to be any play in the tie rod ends?
I also would assume that even though I bought my el camino used, and it recently had lowering spindles installed, I should still restore the ENTIRE front end.
I was looking at OPG magazine, and there were a few lits in their. Pricey, but available.
Any suggestions on front end suspension bushing kits?
My E.C. is almost a bone stocker with the exception of a 700r4. This car will not be for racing or anything with track racing. Just a nice ride to cruise on the streets, and freeway if I can get it to ride smoothly...

I have the same problem. Tires are balanced, all new front end suspension pieces. The wheels were new Wheel Vintiques Rallys bought through Summit. One of the wheels was bent. The guy at the tire store said that could be causing it. I didn't believe him. But, I went and bought another wheel at Summit and toko it back to the tire store. they said the new wheel was bent too, but not as bad as the one from the original set. Since it costs me $20 is gas just to drive down to Summit, I had them go ahead and mount the old tire on the new, and still slightly bent wheel.
The car still vibrates at the same speeds, but not a severely as with the other wheel. Basically, the vibration seems to be proportional to the size of the wheel defect.
So, I am just going to drive it as is until I install new lowering spindles. By then I will need new tires anyway, and will probably just buy new brand name wheels then too.
