Hello all,

Haven't posted in a long while. I'm finally getting motivated to get back to work on my 66 300 Deluxe. The car currently has a relatively stock 350 cu. in. engine with a mild cam, aluminum intake, and holley carb along with H.E.I. ignition. I also have a set of what I think are old hooker headers. They are of the long tube variety that originally came with some type of coating that has since chipped off for the most part.

I'm wondering what headers you guys (and gals) are running. After thumbing through a Summit catalog, it looks as if there's not many - if any options as far as 64-66 is concerned. I'm assuming that none of their offerings are a direct replacement, or can't be installed without some modification (beating on one of the tubes to clear something maybe). Everything I see is listed for 68 and up which is surprising (to me anyway). I'm guessing there has to be a set out there that fits well.

I'd like to have the ceramic coated headers primarily for the look. I've also heard/read in the past that the coating acts as a good thermal barrier to keep the heat low(er) in the engine bay. I also like the shorty headers as opposed to the long tube pavement scrapers that are out there, but after reading a few recent posts, the horsepower gain with shorties is minimal. So that's out to lunch.

Long story short, what's the best fitting, best looking, and most economical header for a 66?

Any info you all can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

There are plenty of full length headers out there that fit a small block 66. Try a place like lemon's headers for a "nice" fit. You may pay a little more but they are made by americans with pride for americans. I think it's proper to stay away from those companies that count beans more than quality. Sooner or later they will get the picture. Even Summit may have the stuff you want but it may not be listed, just call and ask. You have a nice car so step up to a nice set and be proud.

I believe S & S are cheap and still made in America. Couldn't hurt to give them a call.
