Is this a bad idea? The oven gets up to about 400* I believe. will this alter the temper of the steal?

I powder coated my springs and they look great. No issues with the heat.

I did all my springs with no problems. Remember you don't have any weight or stress on them and the temperature for tempering steel I believe is alot hotter then 400 degrees. All my springs look great also.

Weight and stress on them has nothing to do with heat changing the physical characteristics of heat treated steel.

Different metal alloys have different characteristics but I think spring steel in general would be heated to 1200 f and rapidly cooled to 500-650 f. then allowed to cool to room temp.

So is 400 f OK ? I think so.

Why not just paint them?

I powdercoated front and back springs. The spring compressor I used for the fronts didn't care for it. Compressor tended to move with the extra thickness and was slippery.

400 Degrees is fine. The only thing you have to be careful about is they will now be slippery. The spring compressor will tend to slip when you put the springs back in. I put hose clamps in front to the forks on the spring compressor, on the spring itself. This keeps the compressor from slipping.

You have to get way hotter than that to de-temper the springs. I powdercoated mine as well

The reason I want them powder coated is because the frame and all suspension parts are powder coated. I don't need to worry about spring compressors b/c these aer going in the back.
