joeyv69ragtop Sep 17th, 07, 3:13 PM reminds me of how dodgeball is banned in my district.
Now we have to play bombardment... there is a bowling pin on oppsing ends of the gym and the goal is to knock it down with a dodgeball. if you hit a player on the opposing team they are out. if you catch a throw from the opposing team they are out and you get a guy back.
i wonder how long until they figure this one out and ban bombardment.
...and seriously, who breaks a clavical playing dodgeball?

I like this one... English she be a prerequisite of doing anything in the United States.
If you cannot speak the language and are just visiting. Cool!
If you cannot speak the language and are here for more than just a visit. Leave!
I grew up in California and we had several ESL classrooms just for this purpose.

In the sixties most pickups in my schools parking lot had gun racks with rifles in them.
Andy69 Sep 17th, 07, 4:21 PM omg we are a nation of pussies who let ourselves be bullied by terrorists (aka ATF)
Keith Tedford Sep 17th, 07, 4:39 PM Our kids got a new high school teacher from Manitoulin Island (quite a ways north of here). She was absolutely astonished that the boys were all at school the first day of deer hunting season. Up north you had girls schools for two weeks. Now you need to jump through so many hoops to get a gun license that most people don't even bother trying.
My one sister and her husband were both teachers. The use of Ritalin is a sore point with all of us. There is really no differentiation in the schools between the child that needs it and the child that is spoiled rotten. They both act somewhat the same. If it weren't for incompetent parents, probably most of the kids on ritalin wouldn't even need it.

I believe there are many cases where adderal or ritalin is given when not necessary. I also believe there are cases where it is necessary and it helps. My Youngest, takes Ritalin and Rhespirdol (spelled wrong). We tried a dozen others before moving to ritalin. We absolutely refused it, but in the end it was what he needed. If it wasn't for the combination he takes now my son wouldn't be in school. He was kicked out of 6 days cares, 2 pre-school, 2 summer camps, and 1 elementary school prior to this combination. His first year in kindergarten he missed so many days it wasn't funny. Now what was astonishing was that whenever he did have a good day at school he excelled. He is 6 now and working on 2nd/3rd grade work when students his age are typically in first grade. Our other two kids didn't have any problems with school.
I admit that we are embarassed at times when someone hears that he takes Ritalin, because of the stereotype that has been created, but I am thankful that it has helped so much.
Am I incompetent?
Ritalin and such medications have their place, but I do concur that they are often times prescribed when not needed. Our sons medicine was prescribed after we took him to three Psychologists. The first two we were impessed and straight wanted to put him on a zombie dose. The third made since and worked with us every step of the way.

He has went on to say, we all had to learn english, nowhere do you see Italian, German, French , etc. He has caught major grief from his stance on english. I agree with him.
MEJ1990TM Sep 17th, 07, 5:33 PM And it's all in the name of progress. :D
Yeah, Right.
I can associate with the use of Ritalin and getting in trouble. I was always in and out of trouble in school. But I didn't usually sit still in class after the office, I was ussually right back at it. Well not right away usually a day or two break. :p But back to the point. I was put on medication, told I had ADD, and I went and saw a counselor. The real problem was that I just didn't give a crap.
But I have since learned the errors of my ways. I haven't been in trouble once since my Sophomore year, and I'm now a senior.
The real sad thing is that that stuff isn't exaggerated. Well maybe the SWAT for fighting. :p But the rest would probably go down that way.
furball8994 Sep 17th, 07, 5:57 PM Big D. I agree that Ritalin is a very good drug when used properly. I am glad that your son is doing so well. Don't be ashamed, Be proud. He is one that truly needs it and is now doing exceptionally well.
The problem is that for years Dr's viewed it as a wonder drug and every time a child acted up Dr's blindly cried ADD and prescribed it.

I know what you mean.. Like I said the first doctor wanted to throw him on the adderal without any kind of interview or intake session.
