I posted this under engines but then I got thinking maybe it belongs here.
Does anybody have any experience running 100 LL airplane fuel in their High Compression chevelle's?

There is a lot of controversy about this. Airplane fuel is formulated for low rpm, aircraft engines seldom see over 2800 rpm. It also has anti-iceing additives. I wouldn't use it but some have with success.

Runs fine in my 9,500 RPM Honda CB 1100F.
Smells like gasoline used to.
Leaves no oil smear on the gas tank if a drop or two spills on it. It evaporates "cleanly". Pump gas evaporates, but it looks like someone sprayed the tank with WD-40, the oily residue has to be cleaned off or it's there forever.

76 retails 'racing' gas in AZ. The pumps usually have a checkered flag on them. Here's a site that has a 'mixing' chart and explains different blends.

When I used to run nitrous I would have a one gallon fuel cell with C-16 fuel just for the nitrous fuel line. Same stuff my buddy runs in his 14.5:1 compression 427 in a sand drag rail.
I think its a 116-120 octane w/lead.
Its costs around $8 a gallon now.

Just about any local speed shop will sell 5 gallon cans of racing fuel. Also any local racetrack sells fuel.

The 427 would pull a bit more vacuum pulling up a gradual hill with a mix of the 100 in the tank. It liked it. It seemed to like it at 7000 too. I like the smell. tongue.gif
I don't think it adds any hp, but I'm going to track test it this year.

ive read all the stuff on avegas. sounds to me like the the gas companys dont want you to use ave gas . becuse the lose money. i have never heard of any one herting an engine with avegas . but if you are going to spray the car id mix it with race gas to be safe.
