guys,

Ive come to realize that i need a cherry picker to get my drivers side header in around my power steering box. I live in redondo beach (near LA) and wanted to know if any of you guys could loan/rent me one for a few hours. i just need to pick the engine up a few inches. i would buy one, but i move around a lot for my job and dont really want to drag it with me all over the US.

i have a truck and can pick it up/drop it off

can anyone help me out?

thanks
jeff

I would like to help you out with a cherry picker, but I do not have one. Have you tried a floor jack and 2x4 under the oil pan or the crank pulley? Make sure you remove the motormount bolts.

Why not remove the box...load in the hedders and re instal the box???? I remember all the fighting and fussin and cussin we did to get hedders around steering colums and clutch linkage and what not then a light went on. Remove the column and the linkage. Same could apply to the steering box.

ive already pulled the box and have been trying different things for 2 days on getting box the box and the header back in. i just cant get both in without moving the motor. by the way, this is a 540 with 2" tubes, so they arent exactly small.

ill try to jack the engine up with a jack.

anyone else got ideas?

thanks

well, looking at my camaro, theres no wear that i can see to jack up the motor from below and still have room to put the headers in.

looks like i need to pick it up from the top....so, if you have a cherry picker, lemme know.

thanks guys

I just jacked up my motor on the drivers side using some wood and the oil pan... Disperse the weight enough and the pan will support it.

Out here the Ace Hardwares have a Just Ask Rental area, where you can rent a cherry picker for a day for a minimal price.

I rented a picker from All-American Rentals. They have several locations throughout So-cal. Also, try united rentals. Unless someone can chime in with one you can borrow. I think it cost me 20 bucks for the weekend.

Sorry, its called American Rentals. www.american-rentals.com (http://www.american-rentals.com) It looks like they have one in Southgate. I rented mine from Cypress.

Make sure your cherry picker is in this country legally and has all the proper identification...

Depending on the renta cost, it might make more sense to buy one. I think you can get a new 2.5 ton engine hoist for between $100 and $150 easy.
