I'm having a few "issues" ;) with header heat... Keep melting down my rubber upper control arm bushings (Hooker 2" prims, stock vette 117cc heads). Looking for a company that sells alluminum or steel uppers!?! Any help... Thanks a BUNCH!
As the slogan goes "I love my Hooker Headers" HA HA To Death!!

just make some simple aluminum heat shields that bolt to the upper control arm studs.
the Buick GN guys have been fighting this same problem on the passenger side since the '86 models first came out.

I have melted the passenger side upper rear bushing twice in the last year. Mine is a '66 big block , but with 2" Hedman headers. I just noticed that I will be replacing it again soon.
Not sure if Delum's are in my future, have been considering tubular arms though. Probably will have to make a heat deflector, regardless of which arms I use.

make sure you ignition timing is good. retarded timing will jack exhaust temps to the moon in a hurry.

Thx for the response! It wouldn't be tough to make some shields. Just figured since I need to replace the melted ones why not make sure they dont melt again + keep a nice clean look

Im looking a little harder... Afco "May" have an app that will work, we'll see.
Worst case I dont forsee it being too horrible to machine something up that "may" work. I need to make a few more calls to some old friends.
BTW, nice runnin '66!!

Looks like the Afco brand steel uppers should work. We'll see how tough they are to press in!?! An afternoon in the freezer should help the cause
Afco PN-20078---- Jegs sells them for around $12 ea.
