My Chevelle will serve as daily driver. Right now I have a goodwrench 350 with all the little goodies, ie:headers. eddy intake, 600 holley ,etc. Any way I have an 2.73 geared open ten bolt. Now I've been wanting to change my gears for a while but I just keep doubting how big of a change it will really make. I do drive at least 15 miles a day on the freeway to school and back, so 3.55's and 3.73's are out of the question. My question here is would changing to a 3.08 make a big difference, and 3.36's high way friendly, these are the only two gears i'm rally considering. Is there really a big performance boost here, or should I just throw a locker into mine and keep the 2.73's and invest in motor mods?

Well, i used to have a 2.73 open diff car. The single best performance mod i have ever made was going to 3.55 gears and a posi. Really with the 3.55 gears highway cruising is still very doable, you just have to decide if you are going to go 80 or not. I would say the 3.55 or 3.36 would be good, and yes, it would be a performace boost!

I changed my 2.73 in my work van to a 3.08. All high way driving, Its perfect all around for me, Has a little more pick up taking off and uses a little less gas...mike

I'd go to 3.42's and run either a 255/60 or 275/60 tire
