We put a set in our '69 el Camino and they work fine and are easy to read day or night.

I've used them in the past and they always worked fine. When I changed over to Autometer I compared the readings and they were dead on!

sounds good,thanks.

I thought they looked good in person and back in the day they had a good reputation for being good.

What do people think when they look inside and see sun pro instead of the big name autometer stuff.
do people think they are junk because they don't have the big name brand?

Accuracy is important but I don't want people at a car show to think "yuck" when they see sun pro gauges.

Don't worry about what the people at the car show think, Sun gauges are good stuff, with the vintage look. I have Sun pro gauges in both my El Co's.

I like SunPro gauges. Especially the mini-tach II. Do they still make that?

Hey - any preference for mechanical vs electrical guages? I'm about to do oil pressure and water temp...

Oil lines into the passenger compartment can leak. If the line breaks, you are going to have a real mess. I have old original Stewart-Warner gauges in our ss396 car. They were installed by the original owner back in the day. The temperature gauge quit, and the tach is about 300 rpm out. I've had to tighten the oil line at the gauge a couple of times. Not bad I guess considering their age.

IMO they're ok for what they are, but I stick with Autometers when I can.

Your leaky oil press gauge line...is it one of those crappy nylon ones that comes in the kit? Do yourself a favor and run an Autometer braided oil pressure line....I did this, no more leaksd. I sure had leaks with the nylon line.

If I am not mistaken, you can't have the nylon line on a car at a NHRA or IHRA track. I would have no problem using them.

I used copper line on my oil pressure guage. I kinked the nylon line when I was recently redoing the dash so I put in the copper one . I have used the nylon lines for years and never had a leak!

I prefer a nylon line to a copper one, that being said I have a braided line one there now. Just cheap insurance.
The other day I was putting a tach in the dash of my 81 Camino. I had to disconnect the line to my oil gauge. Well my girlfriend parked her car close to mine so I couldn't open the my door all the way. So I decide to move it up a few feet, good thing I have floor mats. :)- I bet a quart of oil squirted out of there before I had it moved 2 feet.
I know better but just forgot in the heat of the moment. :)

I've got a Sun tach in my truck that came off a buddy's dad drag car from the '60s,maybe the '50s but he's not sure.Works fine but doesn't seem accurate at idle,it also has an adjustment for the needle setting. Can't beat the cool factor on it,Mooneyes has one that looks like it.The truck has newer Sun oil and water temp gauges, both mechanical and never had any issues.
The Chevelle has Mallory gauges and Auto Meter tach.Went to an electric temp gauge after I burned a couple of capillary tubes on headers and messed up the gauges. If you use a mechanical temp gauge route your tube better than I did.

Our car has a copper line but I'm wary of that too. Copper can work harden and crack if it flexes much. I'd just as soon have everything electrical. The braided line would be the way to go. I'll have to look into that. Thanks Mac.

Anyone seen the AURORA gauges? They look pretty great... who knows about the quality...

http://www.thehoffmangroup.com/new/aurora/gallery.php

They customize the lettering, color, trim ring and needle for you. I see you can order JUST the printed piece to insert into another gauge (I wonder how easy this is, and as they don't give dimensions - what size gauge would they fit?)

Might be possible to get these dial prints for your Auto or SunPro, but I can't tell if the scale's right or if the dimensions work....

wow thats a cool idea.
I love the idea of being able to make a one off custom gauge face.

I think it says they are 2 1/16" gauges.
But I don't know if you can remove the lens off other gauges to put their face inlays over them.

And like you said I wonder about the quality of the gauge too.
It might look really cool but work crappy, lol.
